An EMP would take out cars
computers
electric grids
trucks
trains,
planes
hospital equipment
elevators,
water treatment plants,
garbage trucks,
oil refineries
gas stations... etc etc etc.
It's NOT just 'electronic toys'...
Good list.
And another important point:
There won’t be teams of rescuers and hundreds of tons of emergency supplies rushed in to put things back to normal in a few days or weeks. The entire infrastructure will collapse and there will be no one coming in to fix it the day after tomorrow.
Unlike the 9/11 attacks, Mt. St. Helens explosion, the Japanese tsunami, hurricanes Katrina and Irene, river flooding, tornadoes, wildfires, avalanches and other disasters we have witnessed, in the aftermath of an EMP event there will be almost no transportation available. Very few, if any cars, trucks, buses, trains, boats or airplanes will be working.
Trains will stop where they are. Boats will have problems navigating to port, around 3,000 jet passenger planes will fall from the sky killing half a million or so and starting thousands of fires. There will be no ambulances, disaster teams or effective firefighting units able to respond.
There will be no food deliveries coming in 2 or 3 days to restock the supermarkets and no medicines other than what is available on the shelves locally.
And there will be almost no supplies coming from American factories - they will be knocked out too. Few if any supplies will be coming by air or sea from other countries because there will be no way to distribute them beyond a few miles of the port.
Fresh food will be left rotting in the fields. Most frozen foods will be spoiled in a few days. Within a week people by the tens of thousands will be starving to death and dying for lack of medicines every day.
If you have food stockpiled there will be hordes of people ready to take it from you by force.
Read the book One Second After as recommended in post #2 and others.
