SOUTH CHARLESTON -- At the Islamic Center in South Charleston, Imam Ehteshamul Haque spent his Thursday afternoon answering phones and preparing the mosque for services.
Haque was in India during Sept. 11, but in his six years in America, he's both seen his share of suspicion and has been helping to educate about Islam.
"Our practices of Islam day and night are extremely peaceful," said Haque.
In a 2009 Gallup poll, 43 percent of Americans admitted to at least "a little" prejudice toward Muslims.
"I believe if you study any religion you will find this problem: The mainstream is different. The minority is there and believes something totally different," said Haque.
Following September 11th, the Islamic Center braced for vandalism, but according to Haque, instead found flowers and messages of solidarity.
"Every mosque and every organization has clear ... statements condemning these extreme views," said Haque.
The Islamic Center is working with a Charleston church for a September 11th event that will focus on understanding.

And because of that, when you look all throughout the Muslim world, what you see everywhere is peace, tolerance, prosperity and enlightenment.
Wait, wut?
Uh... yeah.
The good ol’ Religion of Peace.
Sure.
Extremely peaceful......Sharia Law
A total non-match
There are no "Stereotypes"; what we saw on 9/11 is all that Islam and Mohammed have to offer all us "infidels".
"Our practices of Islam day and night are extremely peaceful," said Haque."... This statement is a LIE, and under Taquia, it is perfectly legal for Muslims to LIE to infidels.
The Lord Jesus Christ LOVES you, Mohammed and Islam want you DEAD!
According to Mohammed and Islam, EVERYONE who does not believe that "Allah" is god, or that Mohamed is his "prophet" is an "infidel".
According to Mohammed and Islam, all us "infidels" have only one of THREE choices:
1) We can convert to Islam by choice or by "force" = "convert or you get a sword to the throat or a bullet to the head".
Oh, you don't like "choice number one", then you get a second choice under Islam:
2) You can become a SLAVE; owned by Islamic "masters" and subject to Shariah law (you know, that wonderful system of dehumanizing, barbaric, 7th century "law" where they cut off hands, kill women because they have disgraced themselves by allowing themselves to be raped, stoning, beheading, you know all that fun stuff).
Ok, you don't like "choice number two" either, then Islam gives you just one more third and final "choice":
3) You can DIE (We will KILL YOU) for your infidel "faith" or lack thereof.
The above three "choices" are the ONLY choices Islam offers all us infidels: Conversion, Enslavement or Death.
There are no "Muslim stereotypes", only the TRUTH about the blood thirsty so-called "prophet" Mohammed, and Islam, his false "religion" bent upon conquest and subjugation of the entire world through, Jihad.
Someone has aptly said: "All I need to know about Muslims and Islam, I learned on September 11, 2001.
"We were shocked to see how northern VA had changed since we lived there. We stayed at a hotel in Tyson's Corner about a mile from where we used to live in Falls Church. It was a Saturday evening and we went out to walk around since we had been in the car all day. We came back in a rear door to the hotel where the conference rooms are located and you will never believe what we happened upon. It was a huge meeting of Muslim men associated with the Imam Al-Kisai and the Institute of America. They were praying and we really got some glaring stares.
I had read that there were Madrasas in Falls Church, VA but I never realized that it was happening in the neighborhood where we lived. I felt that I sensed evil while we were there. I dont know if that was in my mind or a reality, but it was a strange feeling."
A stereotype is that blacks like watermelon and fried chicken.Islam is not a stereotype;it’s the truth.
My first day of class learning about Islam came on September 11, 2001.
Islam is from the devil, SATAN himself.
