Rick Perry: "The Promises and Platitudes' Aren't Going To Cut It"
ABC News ^ | 09/08/2011 | Michael Falcone

Mr. President, we cannot spend our way to prosperity, it does not work.”

Perry said he has a “record of change” whereas Obama only offers “the rhetoric of change.” Though he spent most of his brief remarks assailing the president, Perry vowed to continue to contrast himself with his GOP rivals too.

Perry, who mixed it up at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Wednesday night with the other Republican presidential hopefuls, particularly Mitt Romney, acknowledged that “we’ve got our differences.”

“We’ll talk about them,” Perry said, adding “hopefully in a very respectful way.”

“I stood on the stage last night with seven other very, very fine and great Americans and every one of them would better than what we have in the White House today,” Perry told the crowd, “any one of them.”

Few in the crowd seemed to be concerned about Perry’s use of the term “Ponzi scheme” to describe Social Security despite the criticism he has been drawing even from other Republicans. (Perry did not use that phrase on Thursday.) In fact, some of his supporters appeared to be embracing “Ponzi scheme” as a rallying cry. Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson, a Perry backer, who spoke ahead of the governor, praised Perry’s use of “provocative language.”

And Micki Blair, a teacher from nearby Corona, Calif. who said she was leaning toward Perry in the primary, agreed.

“I don’t think his rhetoric is too strong,” she said. “I think that people are mature, have a brain. They can figure out that if you don’t put enough in, you can’t pass it all out. It just doesn’t work that way.”

Perry will remain in California through the end of the week. He has a full schedule of fundraising events in Southern and Central California and the Bay Area.

How is Perry being a pro-amnesty, open borders, globalist politician the definition of a “great politician”?

He isn't any of those three things.

More canards. Another “guilt-by-association” attack, based on the concept that politicians should be able to time-travel.

CountryWide was a company, they expanded into Texas, they brought jobs to Texas, in 2004. But let’s blame him for something that happened in 2009. Texas should have been smart enough to prohibit that company from entering their state, because Perry should have known what we all learned years later.

Nice use of the word “inveigled” though. So props for that. Although it didn’t really apply, even by your hypothesis, unless you really think he “wiled” Texans into loving CountryWide.

So I guess the Perrydactyl "debate winner" must be getting a makeover---a-g-a-i-n. He's been AWOL for days now---not even one interview touting his "win."

Perry’s campaign MO is looking more and more like the Loser MO 2008 Giuliani used. It’s all about saying one thing and doing another. Giulie kept “saying” he would not enter early primaries and caucuses (where those dreaded conservatives lurked). But he entered and lost all of them. Giulie said he was “saving himself” for Fla where all the New York snowbirds spend the winter.....registered to vote in two locations. Giulie campaigned 63 days straight in Fla and came in a distant third. He spent about $60 million and got zero delegates.

REMEMBER WHEN the Perrydactyl's "said" Ricky won Iowa? Perry DID NOT enter Iowa——but manipulated the vote from afar. That strategy was supposed to put him over the top. Instead he got 700-800 votes....while Iowa winners who did the right thing-—spending time and money there-—— got 4000 votes each.

But there Perry was----front and center---waving to Iowans, taking pics in front of prominent Iowa banners---manipulating people to make them think he was the winner.

===============================================

SAME OLD SAME OLD Same with the debate---manipulating people, to make them think he was the winner....when he screwed up royally.

Even though I am not a Perry supporter, I felt sorry that he could not come up with cogent answers. Several of his responses were non sequiturs and he repeated himself couple times. Perry dropping "g's" was also disconcerting, as were the hesitations and struggles to find the correct word.

For an unabashedly proud law-and-order man bragging about relentless Texas executions, Perry is too blasé about the real threats to Americans by law-breaking illegals who fill our jails.

Perry's illegal-coddling is an outrage----when we know illegal crimes are vast and savage AND directed towards innocent Americans.

=====================================

MAKEOVER TIME Perry’s using the “shotgun approach” on the 2012 campaign trail b/c that’s how they talk in Texas. He obviously is waking up to the fact that Texas talk turns off voters north of the Rio Grande. Some of the pundits were saying he had to come off as sophisticated and savvy-——but that “shucks, y’all” attitude he wears is not very reassuring to sophisticated voters. And that goofy grin---p-u-l-e-z-e. All Perry needs is to chew on a piece of hay to reinforce his down-on-the-farm hayseed image.

There’s a saying in Texas———that we see a lot on FR directed at those who dare criticize Perry-——”good Yankees go home; damn Yankees stay in Texas.”

I guess the anti-perry thread postings aren’t working, so now you’ve all decided to spam all the perry threads with whatever topics you feel like.

I agree that Sarah Palin is better on immigration than Perry is. I’m not sure she’s better on all the issues, but she’s better on that one.

I don't see how you could know. She's been asked a couple of times about it, but afterwards, we got into arguments over what she actually said, and there is still disagreement on what her real position is.

NumbersUsa gave her a "D" grade. That IS slightly better than Perry's "D-", but mostly because they said Perry needed to write down his plan for Border Security before they gave him an "excellent" on that issue. Also, he does have that one big thing they hade -- the texas dream act.

If she announces for President, she'll have to explain exactly what she wants to do with illegals, she'll explain her plan for border security, she'll comment on sanctuary cities, on guest worker programs, and on legal immigration and how to make it work.

Her record in Alaska isn't revealing. She never stopped "sanctuary cities" in Alaska, but they hardly have a problem with illegals. And her borders don't have walls, but they are with Canada, not Mexico.

So we know more about how Perry reacted as a state leader in a state with a large LEGAL hispanic population, on a border that is critical to the economic success of the state. That doesn't inform us as to how he'd act as President, although we can see some of it in what, as Governor, he has asked for the feds to do.

And everything he has asked from the federal government has been strongly against illegal immigration. He has called for border security, for the feds to pay for housing the illegals that are arrested, for the feds to deport the illegals texas is holding. He has called for rejecting the federal dream act, he is against giving a path to citizenship for illegals, and filed an amicus brief in SUPPORT of the Arizona law that the feds were attacking.

to allow them to PAY in-state tuition as they apply for legal citizenship

I think if you look at the residency requirements LINK for applying, it says "I have filed or will file an application to become a permanent resident at the earliest opportunity that I am eligible to do so." So when is is the deadline for applying? within 10 years? 100 years? Sounds like this "requirement" is bogus.

INteresting in an article attacking Barack Obama for his speech, and discussing the problem of Social Security, all the “conservatives” who support other candidates want to do is to attack Perry for all sorts of other issues.

It’s like nobody wants to talk about what perry said about Obama, or Social Security. Nobody wants to agree with what he said about Obama.

[ontap wrote in #30:] 'Do you have any thing to support this post?'
Yes fellow FReeper ontap, she does. It's called the Internet and the facts you can find on it (thank you Al Gore), like these:
  1. Perry worked for Al Gore's potus campaign:
  2. Perry cozied up to HillaryCare with a gushing letter so she wouldn't forget Texans:
  3. Perry cozied up to ACORN with the compelling of Banks to give Mortgage Loans to people who could never pay for them:
  4. Perry cozied up to the Radical Racist LaRaza org:
  5. Perry pushed and help pass the Texas Dream Act for ILLEGALS:
  6. Perry OPPOSED tighter immigration controls for Illegal Alien Criminals and condemned Arizona's Law:
  7. Perry stated that: 'Illegal Aliens who "serve in our Military" should be able to become U.S. Citizens': [STOO-PID, they CAN'T]
  8. Perry Mandated that Gardasil be injected into little school girls:
  9. Perry Endorsed the über liberal Rooty Julie-Annie for POTUS:
  10. Perry stated that: 'Rooty Julie-Annie was the only conservative running for POTUS': [STOO-PID! Rooty's a LIBERAL Tyrant control freak just like Bloomberg - only he's taller.]
  11. Perry was the only GOP Governor who did endorse fruity Rooty:
So fellow FReeper ontap, if you can't recall or don't know about any of the above remember -- Google, or Bing, is your friend. Every one, and MORE, can be found and verified.

Oh, you subsequently asked someone, "who is the true conservative running'.
Well, here ya go.....

No offense meant and you have a nice day

Who gives a crap?

Look at Perry’s history in post 110. Perry is “ Obama-Lite.”

NO THANKS!

But just to be clear: if border security is accomplished, you can envision some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally.
RINO Mitt Perry: Sure.

LINK

Does the answer "sure" mean a new "path to citizenship" or the normal one we already have, as in a Perry answer just before that?

Q: Is there a possible path to pursued in two parts: first, a measure that establishes stricter border security and then, and only then, a later measure that provides a pathway to citizenship for the millions of immigrants who are here illegally? A one-two punch.

Perry: We have a pathway to citizenship in this country today: it’s get in the line and do what it takes to get here legally.

But Perry has been known to duck questions, and although the question did not say "a new path to citizenship, it sounds like it. If that is what he meant, it would contractict what he said in 2006:

That’s why I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status.

It seems like just yesterday the 'Palin folks' were using that same 'Paul Supporter' line as a natural reflex response. They should have copyrighted their talking points, unless they stole them from the Bush-bots LOL

I don’t know about you, I’ve never spoken with you before, but I know there are some here in FR who are obviously extremely frustrated (frustrated to the point of near-insanity, Tempest being a case in point) that Perry has done well (at least initially) and they are obviously taking out their frustrations strongly, rudely and unfairly on ANYONE who doesn’t agree with them 1,000,000%.

It’s a sad sight to see.

Excellent point———none of us wants to waste their precious time on the Perrydactyls. Perry’s got cattle country bamboozled but good.

Perry’s biggest hurdle is to convince those north of the Rio Grande that he’s got the stuff to be president.

Looks to me like he’s using Obama’s underhanded media strategy——letting out only those items advantageous to Senor Perry. Watch how the Perrydactyls balk when we post facts about Ricky’s shenanigans.

America got conned into voting for Obama. Can’t let that happen agauin.

We here on FR perform a valuable public service.
