U.S. officials said Thursday evening they have "specific, credible but unconfirmed" information about a threat against the United States coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
"We have received credible information very recently about a possible plot directed at the homeland that seems to be focused on New York and Washington, D.C.," a senior administration official told CNN Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr.
The official said the plot was believed to involve three individuals, including a U.S. citizen, who may have entered the United States. U.S. officials believed the threat was a vehicle laden with explosives, but "the intelligence picture is not completely formed," the official said. "Not enough is known about the potential operatives and their plotting."

Not to minimize the damage a truck bomb can do, but you’d think the terrorists would be embarrassed to follow up their Twin Towers/Pentagon successes of ten years later with a truck bomb.

Recent intelligence, obtained within the past day, and originating from the tribal areas of Pakistan, advised the United States of a plan to set off car or truck bombs in Washington or New York around the time of the 9/11 anniversary, officials told NBC News.
The information indicated that three people would travel to the U.S. from Pakistan to carry out an attack, they said. However, the information included very little else in the way of specifics — in terms of timing or target.
Law enforcement officials will be told tonight to be on the lookout for three men “of Middle Eastern descent” and potentially traveling in a van, they said.

I suspect that an attack will occur and will be successful. Here’s why. Obama needs something harsh to draw attention away from the Fast and Furious scandal and he needs it to play into stronger Governmental controls on the citizens.
If an attack occurs, there will be a strong move to vindicate BATFE and DOJ and turn them into heroes rather than villains over F&F.
Color me skeptical.

I live in Manhattan so I’m cautious. Especially because some muzzies were arrested yesterday in Germany trying to build a car bomb.

If they are able to successfully able to pull it off, it would be a big boost for them. Truck bombs have been the rule for terror, and just pause and think the loss of life one of those can generate.
Pakistan being ‘kinda’ our allies, as you put it justifies letting members of the Pakistani cabinet and of factions of the Pakistani military and ISI known to be opposed to the factions in the ISI that back the Taliban, and maybe Pakistani Shi’ites (who get attacked by the Taliban and Al Qaeda types perhaps more often than they attack American, our troops in Afghanistan excepted) come to visit. Pakistanis in general, no.

Or better yet, if an attack does NOT occur. Instead they set up a couple of patsies and "stop" them before they can blow anything up. Then they really look like heroes.
What about a dirty nuke or biohazard truck bomb?
I did mention that in my post. But as far as scale goes, a few truck bombs aren't even in the same universe of stunning success as Twin Towers/Pentagon.
To me, it would be an admission that their terrorist network and capabilities have been massively attritted.
If they really had their hands on a WMD, then they’re running a HUGE risk sitting on it for a specific date instead of just detonating it at the earliest opportunity.
Also, if they really had a nuke device, we’ll probably find out the Obama administration “walked” it to them in order to “trace it.” :)
