Jon Kyl: I’d quit supercommittee over defense cuts
Politico ^ | Sept. 8, 2011 | Charles Hoskinson

Posted on 09/08/2011 12:50:31 PM PDT by La Enchiladita

They’ve only met once, but Sen. Jon Kyl is already threatening to quit the deficit busting supercommittee if the panel pushes more defense cuts.

“I’m off the committee” if there are deeper cuts to the military, Kyl warned at a forum sponsored by several conservative think tanks, including AEI, the Foreign Policy Institute, and the Heritage Foundation.

...Kyl and others are also deeply worried about the so-called “trigger” in the debt-limit law passed last month. If the supercommittee fails to reach between $1.2 trillion and $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, there will be automatic cuts in defense spending and Medicare.

The trigger was built into the debt limit deal in order to force serious action from the supercommittee, but Kyl and others are already promising to rewrite the law to water down the trigger if the deficit panel fails to reach a deal by Thanksgiving.

Isn't it a little late for this, Senator Kyl? Why did Republicans cave on defense cuts during the "debt ceiling" debate. Was it because of Tea Party pressure as well as Democrap pressure? Repubs originally vowed that defense was not on the table, but TP spokespersons demanded that it should be. Right?

Essentially the entire senate is a collection of disingenuous sacks of crap. They disgust me. Unaccountable jackwagons, nearly every one.

Of that’s GREAT Kyl.

So they can replace you with somebody like Snowe or Collins who WILL approve it?

YEAH, Kyl, this was a GREAT idea - the Supercommittee.

Kudoos to you and Boner and McConnell - right up the butt!!!

Obama gets his campaign-saving debt increase, and NOTHING gets cut, at all.

Say Hello to the Potomac two-step.

Pull the trigger!!! Our “defense” budget has almost nothing to do with defense and everythign to do with budget-busting and futile world policing.

Ah yes, the super-duper committee.

What could go wrong? It's not like they want to have secret meetings or anything...

BTW, I STILL can't find the originator of the idea for the super-duper committee. Somebody had to come up with this nightmare, who was it?

Perhaps it was just "miracled" into existence?

Jon Kyl declares himself the number one enemy of American retirees dependent on Social Security and Medicare.

Which comedian joked about Congressmen being required to wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers, with all their sponsors patches publicly displayed?

“My right to continue to receive campaign contributions from military industrial contractors far exceeds the rights of American people to retain their purchasing power in their meager US Dollar savings.” - Jon Kyl, September 8th, 2011

“Eat dog food or die grandma, there’s Iraqi sub-contractors in need of more zeroes in their Dubai bank accounts” - Jon Kyl, September 8th, 2011

All Heil Kyl, ruler and destroyer of Afghani shepherd boys. Let the goat herders lament the continued destruction of their bungholes, for He has said, let it be, and it was done, praise be he in his infinite wisdom, protector of quarterly profits, benefactor of countless vacation communities on both coasts, and crown prince of the county of Fairfax, and the independent fiefdom of Alexandria.

Newt can be Newt, but he did have an excellent criticism of the Gang of X. Since it is a measly $1.1T to cut, assign every Congressional Committee to do an "X%" cut, and dissolve the STOOOOOPID Gang of X.

Central Planning is NOT AMERICAN. Stop the MARXISM!

That little rant was just too damn close to 9/11 to even be considered the product of a coherent mind.

You be sure to send me your name and address so I can let my grandkid (just enlisted in Marines) know who’s on their own the next time.

Honest at this point, we need to be looking at the possibility of letting the Federal military collapse for a time. Remember theses many of agents, are folk that are likely to follow the orders in raising arms to enslave us.

The standing army is a threat to American liberty precisely because its officers and personnel are hand picked by the same folk who would usurp the same at home.

As long as the Federal Constitution means nothing to them folk, and is unenforceable by anyone else that army is a grave threat to any effective resistance to their tyranny(illegitimate goverment).

We must be prepared to let the Federal army and air-force collapse!

You have a s/n saying you are a VN Vet,
You realize that your VA benefits are going to be slashed every year for the next 11 years minimum, but more likely every year for the next four decades, due to the costs of Iraq and Afghanistan?
You realize your son will NEVER receive the VA benefits currently listed in his USMC contract, due to the current costs of the DoD?
You realize that your savings have lost 10% of their purchasing power in the last 48 months, and your purchasing power has dropped by over 10% in the last 48 months SPECIFICALLY to cover the costs of the DoD and the interest payments on the last decade of DoD costs will now be carried by your son, his kids, and his grandkids? (Of course the QE is also covering other expenses, but the DoD is a huge part of the total pie)

Do NOT lecture people on FR about 9/11, I watched the second tower get hit and inside were several people I knew. The families of the victims do not want the children and grandchildren of the victims to become permanent subjugated serfs paying off debts for multiple generations, and neither do I, and neither should you and your son.

To balance the budget, the US Federal government has to decrease expenditures and increase revenues by 55% of the total budget and off budget items, every year going forward, for at least twenty years, just to get back to being merely broke. The DoD has to take its medicine along with every other aspect of the Federal cost structure. Or would you rather lose your SS, Medicare and increase your tax rates to 60% of gross without deductions? It’s a binary choice.

The first item on the cutting block must be foreign aid. Americans are tired of supporting other countries whose citizens are better off than the USA. We can’t pay for disasters here. Cut all foreign aid now! Only then can we legitimately get support for making deep cuts in the budget for America.

We need to develop a top to bottom culture in the government and military of running a tight ship - of waste not want not. I’ve been there done that and there are huge pots of waste going on in all branches of the govt and military. The culture needs changed.

The more you see it the less you give a damn about the waste. The only way to correct it is to do more with less and you start by making major cuts. It forces managers and officers and NCOs to figure out ways to do more with less just as it does in business.

Everything you have stated is correct... sadly there is just far too much spending going on.

We are going to have to make some tough choice or leave our children and future Americans with literally nothing as slaves to our creditors. To continue on this path would be immoral.

Nervous - “Essentially the entire senate is a collection of disingenuous sacks of crap. They disgust me. Unaccountable jackwagons, nearly every one.”

That’s because both the Senate and House are rented and leased by big money, organized labor and international corporations. Make no mistake we have the best government money can buy. They are all beholden to the almighty $$$$$ and those who have the most of it. Their only mission is getting reelected and taking care of cronies. Both Parties are guilty.

Republicans are less tolerant of this corruption than Democrats and I say that because of the outcome of Abramhoff etc. and what happened in PA with a corrupt pay raise. But neither Party serves the people and Constitution. They all have masters that they serve and not average people, and it is the original reason the Tea Party gained traction.

"...but Kyl and others are already promising to rewrite the law to water down the trigger.."

This was the phrase that summarized the futility of this whole house of cards. If we have laws we ignore, as we are doing, then we are screwed.

“Isn’t it a little late for this, Senator Kyl? Why did Republicans cave on defense cuts during the “debt ceiling” debate. “

Good point. If he goes off and supercommittee does nothing, cut happen.

Also, we NEED TO CUT SPENDING. All of it. Everywhere. DoD included.

“Was it because of Tea Party pressure as well as Democrap pressure?”
No. Reid wrote much of the bill with McConnell it must have been his idea.

But the GOP has to stop being addicted to DoD spending. Our national security will be meaningless if we are in hock to the Chinese. So balance the budget by cutting spending is 100% necessary.
