Pelosi Peeved Republicans Opt Out of Rebuttal to Obama Speech (Just another teleprompter speech)
Fox News ^ | 9/7/2011 | fox news

Republicans have decided they're not going to give a rebuttal to President Obama's jobs speech later this week, a decision House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi took as a high affront to the White House.

At least three GOP lawmakers also have announced they're not going to show up for the presidential address. House Speaker John Boehner's office then confirmed Tuesday evening that nobody from the party would deliver an official televised response.

Pelosi said the party's "silence" would "speak volumes about their lack of commitment to creating jobs." "The Republicans' refusal to respond to the president's proposal on jobs is not only disrespectful to him, but to the American people," Pelosi said.

But Boehner spokesman Mike Steel said Obama's proposals on Thursday "will rise or fall on their own merits," suggesting a GOP response was not needed.

"Republicans are, and have been, entirely focused on job creation. Every member of Congress, and -- more importantly -- the American people, will provide a reaction to the president's address," Steel said.

If Botox was made of brain cells, Pelosi would be Einstein.

Unfortunately...

The Republicans should (pre) write their answer, put it up on a teleprompter and hire Monica Lewinsky to read it in a flat, monotone voice.

I still think this is a mistake.

It's all well and good to make a political point against a political opponent... and the faithful like us FReepers sure like it. But mainstream America needs a delousing after this speech. What hurt the Contract with America and eventually lead to losing the Congress for the GOP was taking their message for granted. The 1994 class under Newt Gingrich stopped preaching their message and got to work... sounds like a great plan on paper... but that let the MSM define the debate and explain what the GOP was up to.

In politics, controlling the message is every bit as important as doing the work. The MSM can't change the reality of the economic situation... but they can sure help to assign the blame...

The GOP leadership needs to point out to the American people all of the legislation sitting on Harry Reid's desk that won't see the light of day... and they should use this national audience BO has given them to do it.

Don’t be naive. If the GOP responded, the entire news media could concentrate on attacking the GOP response.

What Boehner is doing by being quiet is letting the news media only have 0bama’s “new” jobs plan to talk about.

...certain death for it.

Not to mention that Obama would time it so the Republican response would run into the start of the NFL game.

Haven’t they already released Obama’s script? All he has to do now is read it off the teleprompter. A pre-written GOP answer might actually be feasible.

I would offer the rebuttal from the first stimulus. Tell them play that we’re good with it.

Ordinarily I`d agree with you, but if there`s one thing I`ve learned about politics in the last few months it is a new appreciation for the smarts of the American voter. `Controlling the message` is mediaspeak for `Telling them what to think,` but people simply aren`t buying the message anymore. They don`t need to be told to reject this guy anymore, and the right`s challenge now is NOT making the same mistakes the left is making. SHOW people why they should support us and they will, but you can`t force people to believe as we do. Let them hear Obama and they will reject him, but don`t rush in and tell people what they should think. Sometimes silence is the best message.

I liked DeMint’s comment... He doesn’t want to be a “prop.”

Responding only elevates the speech. As if it were a serious proposal — and not just an election speech designed to blame Republicans.

Ignoring the speech will be what 95 percent of Americans will do. The five percent who care enough about this bozo to endure his rambling propaganda will vote for him anyway.

People are sick of this teleprompter droning that spews from Obama’s mouth. The audience will be small.

Great point of view; I think/hope you’re right. After all, the chattering class has to talk about something so they’ll talk about Obama’s proposals which will be new, stupendous things like “the luckiest among us should pay their fair share,” “people with private planes can afford to pay a little more,” and “we all need to share with those who haven’t been as fortunate.”

I agree.

In this case, with this president who's people call us thugs, terrorists, barbarians, etc.; I wish the Republicans would simply boycott the speech.

Or maybe shoot paper clips at Obama's tele-prompters.

I would love to see someone pull the plug on Zero’s teleprompter during his speech to Congress. Sort of like in the movie Airplane where the joker air traffic controller pulled the plug on the landing lights. Just to see the panicked look on Zero’s face. This poser can’t fly without his teleprompter.
