Was Rick Perry Al Gore's 'Cheerleader'?

Politics: In a new campaign ad, Ron Paul questions the bona fides of the Texas governor as a true GOP conservative, charging he once turned his back on the Reagan revolution. The truth is somewhat different.

Back in 1988 Rick Perry, now a 2012 presidential contender and three-term GOP governor of Texas, was a Democrat. He acknowledges that, just as President Reagan acknowledged that he too had been a Democrat who did not leave his former party so much as it left him.

When it came to lying Clinton had a talent. I find it mind boggling that with all he did and all we know about him so many still see him as a great president.

Rick Perry was Al Gore's "Yell Leader", not cheerleader. But who the heck cares? That was 30 years ago.

Perry's response was priceless:

"The Perry campaign responded to the ad by noting that Paul ran against Reagan as a Libertarian in 1988 and produced Paul's 1987 letter of resignation from the Republican party, which refers to Reaganomics as "nothing but warmed-over Keynesianism."

That was so good that I added it to my new web site, The Rick Perry Report

Kind of my point. Clinton was a chameleon, like Gore. For a pro-life audience, he's pro-life. For a feminist audience, he believes Anita Hill. Gore's problem is he's a terrible liar, unlike Clinton.

Sounds like from the responses above that Tennessee residents recognized what a duplicitous POS Gore was even decades ago. I stand corrected.

How about providing a link to “Perry explaining everything” instead of just calling people names. You’re not in position to determine what I can and cannot comprehend.

Didn’t say Perry was Reagan.

Thanks for backing me up on all my points.

What helped Clinton is that he had a GOP Congress to rescue his butt and force him away from his ultraleft agenda, at least with respect to tax & spend (and he could also simultaneously use them as a running foil). Why Zero is so stupid is that he refuses to follow the same model and persists with the same policies that Clinton had to abandon 2 years in, and it’s why he’ll lose if he doesn’t change course. If Clinton had remained as steadfast as an ultraleft zealot, he’d have lost in ‘96 against any GOP opponent, even Dole.

I didn't back you up on anything, you clown! I took your headline potshots at Reagan and told the whole story.

Obfuscating the Reagan record in an effort to make Perry or any candidate look better is pure BS. Its been tried with Romney and Giuliani without success. Just plenty of zots!

Al Gore had an ACU rating in 1988 of 9.
He had an ACU rating of 6 in 1997.
His rating in 1986......9

Does that sound conservative to anyone here?

Good grief people, Gore was a flaming lib even then, don't try to pass Perry's support of him as some kind of conservative democrat, because it's a lie.

Oops, that ACU rating of 6 happened in 1987 for Gore.

Yes, the Republican congress was responsible for a lot including welfare reform. Clinton, who was clearly against it vetoed it twice. Only after it was made veto proof did he agree to sign it and he takes credit for it to this day.

A Perry supporter would say it was, or they would at least pretend they thought it was just as they pretend nothing else Perry did that was wrong matters.

PerryKrishnas, excusing the most uncomfortable idiocy as they dance and sing........"Why Gore was a conservative when he endorsed him, and he never, ever voted for a democrat since Ronald Reagan!"

They say this stuff with a straight face. Unbelievable.

They say it with a straight face because they have to try to convince themselves they believe it.

Things Perrybots have said:

Perry may have said he was for open borders but he didn't mean it.
There was nothing wrong with Perry supporting pro-abortion candidate Rudy Giuliani in 2008.
There was nothing wrong with Perry comparing pro-abrtion, pro-gay, anti-gun Rudy Giuliani to President Ronald Reagan.
There was nothing wrong with Perry advocating for instate tuition for ILLEGAL aliens.
There was nothing wrong with Perry going down to Mexico and bragging about giving instate tuition to ILLEGAL aliens.
There was nothing wrong with Perry wanting to give citizenship to aliens who are in this country ILLEGALLY.
There is nothing wrong with Perry's nanny-state attempt to force an unproven and unneeded vaccine into the arms of young girls.
There was nothing wrong with Perry siding with the Obama administration against Arizona's SB1070.
There was nothing wrong with Perry opposing a border fence similar to that in San Diego County which has been 95% effective.
There was nothing wrong with Perry saying he was "Fine" with New York's gay marriage law.

These are just a few of the things Perrybots have to 'overlook' to push their boy as a conservative. Nevermind that if Obama or a democrat had done any of these things they would have joined in with all at FR in condemning it. If their boy Ricardo did it it must be ok. I have never encountered such mindless drones in my life.

Are you prepared for an other 4 years of Obama? If Rick Perry gets the nomination Obama's a lock.

Well Boop gets #1. Maybe for all time.

Gore was NEVER as conservative as you say Boop. And in 88, as previously stated he was already pro-choice. Sorry that’s a fact.

Pro “economic growth”? LOL. Maybe for the tobacco companies that owned him, that’s about it. He voted against the Reagan tax cut. Look up his voting record. The ACU rated him as liberal throughout his tenure in Congress with Harold Ford Sr. being the only more liberal member of the Tennessee House delegation.

29, 13, 13, 11, 13, 29, 20, 22

Lottery numbers? No, Gore’s scores (out of 100) from the American Conservative Union during his house tenure. 1977-1984

And his Senate scores up till 1988?

17 in 85, 9 in 86 ,6 in 87 and 9 in 88 that year Rick Perry wanted him to be elected President. 9% Conservative.

Would you have voted for that Boop? Really?

This “argument” is OVER. The last ship back to planet Earth is leaving, Boop.

Gore was the same animal “BearManPig” then that he is now.

So thanks for stating that Reagan signed ALL of those Bills.

Legislation doesn't CHANGE after the chief executive signs them.

Try and study up on how the government works.

I know how government works and I know how politics work too. From your juvenile replies its obvious you're uninformed and misinformed about government and politics. And you don't know jack squat about the Reagan record, except to post cheap potshots that make you sound like a know-nothing malcontent, at best.

>>>>>Legislation doesn't CHANGE after the chief executive signs them.

Guess you've been living under a rock your whole life. LOL Clearly, you need a crash course in how the chaotic antics of the modern liberal movement has abused, gutted and ignored existing legislation at the local, state and federal levels. Liberal Democrats have been turning legislation on its head for decades and they will continue to do so. The GOP is also guilty of distorting legislation. Both parties regularly trample on the Constitution and its original intent. Get your head out of your butt!

The California liberal medical community took the '67 TAA and turned it into abortion on demand. As I explained, that was never Reagan's objective. Ted Kennedy gutted the border enforcement and employer sanction aspects of the '86 IRCA but allowed the legalization provision to be abused and run up totals of 2.7 million grants of citizenship. That also was not Reagan's objective either.

You can ignore the truth all you want. But historic revisionism will get you nowhere around this forum.

Did you see post #53? I admitted I was wrong about Gore. I was originally taken in by Gore’s “reputation” as a conservative dem. A reputation that was trumpeted by the MSM when he was running for president. Like I said, it is obviously clear to me now that Gore was in no way shape or form conservative. My mistake was in believing the myth perpetrated by the liberal media.

First, I think the greatest presidents are in order: Washington, Lincoln and Reagan. In that order.

Reagan said he was sorry about signing the legislation for some abortions in California. He knew it was a mistake. The democrats were evil as always. Reagan was rolled.

So was Reagan wrong when he said he shouldn’t have signed it, or was Reagan wrong when he signed the legislation?

“Facts are stubborn things.”

Please knock off the ad hominem jabs. It makes you sound like a Teamster(Liberal). Just try and argue the facts.
