Rick Perrys decision to head back to Texas to deal with wildfires across his state may have annoyed the organizers of a conference in South Carolina, but it left an impression with some media outlets. As Jim Geraghty notes, the Washington Post isnt too likely to give Perry many friendly headlines, but the Texas governor has to like this one Rick Perrys response to Texas wildfires offers glimpse of leadership:
With wildfires raging across his state, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) assumed a familiar role this week: crisis commander in chief.
His abrupt decision this week to cut short his presidential campaign schedule in South Carolina to oversee his states response to the fires offers a glimpse of a central aspect of his leadership style and a look at what kind of president he would be.
Since Perry took office in 2001, four hurricanes have made direct landfall in Texas. Another, Rita, came by way of Louisiana and caused more than $11 billion in damage. And then there was Katrina, which plowed into New Orleans in August 2005 and pushed hundreds of thousands of evacuees into the arms of Texas.
So what kind of president would Perry make, as demonstrated by his crisis-management experience?
There is perhaps no greater illustration of Perrys leadership in crisis than his oversight of Texass response to Katrina. He took pains to declare the state open to those who would need shelter from the storm, and he toured the Astrodome in Houston to check in with displaced families.

He’s got more experience than you are giving him credit due to his years in public service. No matter how you all try to spin this area in a negative light to prop up your favorite. It will backfire because he’s been competent enough to never have lost an election and he’s never resigned a position.
People know the Palins, they overexposed themselves when they went the celebrity tabloid rout after she resigned. That’s no one else’s fault but SP’s. She could have laid low, done the speech circuit, brushed up the resume and worked on rectifying her tarnished image but she didn’t. She did a reality tv show that had Kate plus 8 on an episode. That’s not enhancing a resume for the POTUS!
naps.....
Normally the Governor position in Texas would be considered weak by comparison to other states. But when a person has been in the office for 10+ years then that person has appointed some person to every appointive position in the State. That runs into the thousands who have their position of authority on these boards/commissions made via the Governor. Who do you think answers the phone when a call comes in from the Governor. They do and most likely do his bidding or they don’t get reappointed. Not saying this is good or bad, just the way it is at the present time.
I’m thankful you aren’t running the country because I question your judgement!
Back at ya there lonely. I at least would be a conservative not like Perry who is moderate at best.
