That Perry sure acts like a leader, says … the Washington Post?

Rick Perry’s decision to head back to Texas to deal with wildfires across his state may have annoyed the organizers of a conference in South Carolina, but it left an impression with some media outlets. As Jim Geraghty notes, the Washington Post isn’t too likely to give Perry many friendly headlines, but the Texas governor has to like this one — “Rick Perry’s response to Texas wildfires offers glimpse of leadership“:

With wildfires raging across his state, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) assumed a familiar role this week: crisis commander in chief.

His abrupt decision this week to cut short his presidential campaign schedule in South Carolina to oversee his state’s response to the fires offers a glimpse of a central aspect of his leadership style — and a look at what kind of president he would be.

Since Perry took office in 2001, four hurricanes have made direct landfall in Texas. Another, Rita, came by way of Louisiana and caused more than $11 billion in damage. And then there was Katrina, which plowed into New Orleans in August 2005 and pushed hundreds of thousands of evacuees into the arms of Texas.

So what kind of president would Perry make, as demonstrated by his crisis-management experience?

There is perhaps no greater illustration of Perry’s leadership in crisis than his oversight of Texas’s response to Katrina. He took pains to declare the state open to those who would need shelter from the storm, and he toured the Astrodome in Houston to check in with displaced families.

One thing is certain: Perry has more experience leading a state in crisis than any other contender for the Republican presidential nomination.I expect him to do well tonight...I'd like to see Bachmann do well also.

Wait for it . . . 1, 2, 3 . . . "That just shows that the Washington Post and all liberals want Perry to win because he is a liberal." /rolleyes

They are petrified that Perry is going to win. They see the demise of their glorious Hope and Change society coming and are desperate to arouse their Democrat Party to fight.

Ok, I’ll bite. The MSM knows Barry is toast. They want a status quo type guy as a place holder until the RATS can make a comeback. What better choice than a former RAT, turned Republican. It’s almost like the manchurian candidate scenario we got in ‘08.

MSM picking our candidate, again.

Maybe people really want someone who is a proven leader with experience. Lot’s of people voted for the 0ne with high hopes and he has been nothing more than a miserable failure. All anyone has to see is that Texas is faring well in spite of the 0bama regime’s war on jobs and Texas.

People want a stable person who can handle real crises. You don’t become a 3+ term governor of the second largest state if you are totally incompetent.

Yep. Post of the day! You are a brilliant person! Replace a liberal with a liberal. It is a win-win for the Democrats and RINOs. Why else would they be praising this guy all day long. They did this with McCain too and look how that turned out. They want Perry so badly and nobody is suspect of that.

Well you actually do when your position is watered down not like other states. Governor of Texas is like the monarchy in England. Photo ops and hand shaking....oh and kissing babies.

Texas has a plural executive branch system which limits the power of the Governor. Except for the Secretary of State, all executive officers are elected independently making them directly answerable to the public not the Governor.[3]
The executive branch consists of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Comptroller of Public Accounts, Land Commissioner, Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner, the three-member Texas Railroad Commission, the State Board of Education, and the Secretary of State. The comptroller decides if expected state income is sufficient to cover the proposed state budget. There are also many state agencies and numerous boards and commissions. Partly because of many elected officials, the governor’s powers are quite limited in comparison to other state governors or the U.S. President. In popular lore and belief the lieutenant governor, who heads the Senate and appoints its committees, has more power than the governor. The governor commands the state militia and can veto bills passed by the Legislature and call special sessions of the Legislature (this power is exclusive to the governor and can be exercised as often as desired). The governor also appoints members of various executive boards and fills judicial vacancies between elections.
All members of the executive branch are elected statewide except for the Secretary of State (appointed) and the State Board of Education (each of its 15 members are elected from single-member districts). Past executive branches have been split between parties. When Republican President George W. Bush served as Texas’s governor, the state’s Lieutenant Governor, Bob Bullock, was a Democrat. However, since 1994 the Republican Party has won all statewide elections, and also holds a majority of the seats on the State Board of Education.

He doesn’t even lead. It is much different than other states. If you read this you will see how different the position is from other states.

The WP is giving the Perry campaign just a tiny taste of how fine it would be to have them on his side, only for a price of course.

And it will be too delicious, too tempting to resist...Republican front runners fall for it every time.

He’s also been the Lt. Governor which is a quite powerful position in Texas government. He was the State Ag commissioner for two terms and a state representative, plus a farmer/rancher for 13 years before getting into politics.

He’s got the most real experience in GOVERNING than anyone in the race or not. 0bama’s failure has people longing for stability.

When will Hot Air officially change its name to “Pimping for Perry?”

The RINOs that run Hot Air are even running more pro-Perry posts than Palin-bashing posts these days.

Where would napscoordinator if there weren’t Perry threads for him to trash?

BTW, napscoordinator, I asked on another thread, but got crickets, so I’ll ask here:

Who is your candidate? Who do you like?

Now that he’s headed for California to do the debate and a couple of fund-raisers, what does the Post have to say about his leadership?

I wrote this to you on 4 September but running your mouth you missed it....not surprising

I am for Governor Palin first. Congressman Buchmann second, and Mr. Cain third. I wouldn’t mind Senator Santorum either. What I want is a REAL conservative and those four are what I consider REAL conservatives. Governor Perry is not a REAL Conservative. I am sure he is a great person and Governor, but not Presidential material.

So then you DON’T care about immigration, because Palin is only slightly better than Perry, and way, way down, according to NumberUSA.

So please, from now on, STFU about immigration, ok?

Because you just proved yourself a f*ing hypocrite on THAT subject.
