Loitering weapons system combines drones developed by both nations.
A rare look into Israels unmanned weapons capabilities was revealed on Tuesday with an announcement by Germanys Rheinmetall that it had jointly developed with Israel a loitering weapons system based on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
The system, called WABEP, which in German stands for Weapons system for standoff engagement of individual and point targets, was developed by Rheinmetall together with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a world leader in the development of UAVs and loitering weapons.
The WABEP is a combination of Rheinmetalls KZO drone and IAIs Harop attack drone, which according to media reports, is already in operational use in India and Turkey.
The Harop was developed as a weapon to suppress enemy radar systems used together with surface-to-air missiles or other similar high-value targets.
The Harop can fly to a designated loitering position where it searches for electromagnetic signals from surface-to-air missile batteries and then dives in to destroy them.
Loitering weapons systems is considered a highly-classified topic in Israel, which is believed to have developed a number of systems over the years capable of loitering over battlefields and engaging static and mobile targets. The Harop, for example, can stay in air for a number of hours during which time its operator can hunt for a target.
Such systems are believed to be critical ahead of a future conflict with an enemy like Hezbollah, which has deployed tens of thousands of missiles and launchers throughout Lebanon.
Last month, the IDF Artillery Corps revealed that it uses a missile called the Tamuz, which has seen action in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
The Tamuz is based on Rafaels Spike non-line-of-sight missile, which has a range of 25 kilometers and can penetrate armored vehicles.

gee how's that for irony?
I hope somehow Hitler knows about this.
The irony is that Israel is making a political decision to get close to Germany. They have few friends but realize that Germany will hold sway over Europe in the very near future. Looks very good on the surface. The real irony is that Germany will eventually broker the peace in the ME. Giving them a political status few have. Then they’ll attempt to finish what they started.
Will it be peace, though? The majority in that country have been calling Israel "Nazi-like" in their propaganda claiming that Israel's been "exterminating the Palestinians". This is part of the German elites' lust for the Holy Land . . .

Germany is again coming into it’s own. What better way to cement ones international status than bringing peace to a area that no other country could? It’s the Holy Grail of diplomacy.
They’ll tamp down their inner dissension, with no problem. Germany will move fast. God called them the leopard for a reason. And, yes it’ll be a traitorous association. People worry about muzzies. Makes me laugh to no end and cry that intelligent people consider these retches a match.
With these drones they’ll be able to pinpoint specific Amish at a dinner table.
There’ s a secret button in Berlin that can activate the drones to attack Jews!
The Germans bend over backwards to apologize for WWII -- over and over again. They are taught that their nation did these cruel things from the first year in school to the end.
yes, they are a match -- remember that they conquered the Persian Empire and the formerly Christian lands of Northern Africa, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen and made them Moslem. They did the same to much of Albania and to Bosnia. They are not to be underestimated.
could be -- interesting premise. would never have thought they'd be building arms together.
They need to develop a larger UAV with a belly full of small diameter guided bombs (say about 50 lbs. each), that can loiter forever, dispensing them as needed, together with an interface that connects it right to the front line troopies.
Think of it as “Instant Artillery.” You could attach one to each company - or even each platoon!
Thanks sukhoi-30mki. Pretty sure this will work well. :’)
