Drying Lake Chad puts 30m lives on edge

Lake Chad, one of the largest boddies of water in Sub-Saharan Africa, is on the verge of drying up, as only 1,500 square kilometres,  of the original 25,000 square kilometres size of the lake still remain.

The figure represents 10 percent of the initial size of the lake, which traverses Nigeria and three other neighboring countries -- Chad , Niger , and the Republic of Cameroon.

The lake, which banks in Nigeria , in the north-astern state of Borno, with Maiduguri as its administrative capital, is said to share similar hydrological basin with four other countries: Central African Republic, Algeria , Sudan and Libya.

Experts are of the view that at the rate at which the lake is shrinking, it might become mere dry land in the next 20 years...

“This is a staggering prospect when it is remembered that at the time of Nigeria `s political independence, the lake covered an area larger than the size of the state of Israel . Today only less than 10 percent of that size remains..."

I have no words to adequately describe your pompous liberal-like ego. You really are NOT a conservative. And you have a reading comprehension problem.

I have read numerous accounts of Western do-gooders building wells for various African villages. Hand pumps, easy to maintain, designed exactly for the conditions. Problem is, within a short time, some men will cut up every bit of metal from the well head and well to sell for scrap to buy beer. Sigh. What can you do, when the concept of “enlightened self interest” (ie “don’t tear up the new village well for beer money”) simply doesn’t exist?

"Yes, we were lucky just to be born here! All to easy to take for granted."

Some were lucky to be born here. Others were men who invented and built many things here. Enjoy the benefits of that globalism and socialism to some, because it's going to be gone before long.

There are more than enough inventive, hard working Americans living rough lives, but they don't whine as much as globalist/government thieves and their global friends. And yes, I'm qualified by enough with experiences to make that statement.

And Americans who own small properties and would build and maintain their own infrastructure necessities and businesses are obstructed by frivolous regulations, HOAs and other rackets from doing so—regulations and rackets devised by effete and worldly residents to keep the redneck riff-raff from becoming neighbors. Currently, foreclosures are on hold all over the country in an effort to continue the anti-development regime. After those foreclosures go through, its all over for the local regulators (big decreases in property values, taxes and other revenues).

‘Penis shrinking’ and masturbation are two different things. Nobody has a monopoly on sexual perversion.

What you claimed those African men did is not fundamentally different from what Anthony Wiener was caught doing. Hundreds of thousands of Westerners do that sort of thing. The only difference is technology. Your tabloid media is full of Westerners caught doing that sort of thing.

Nobody claims that all Westerners are like Anthony Wiener, so stop claiming that all African men are like that.

Senegal and Gambia are full of European women looking for young black men. Thailand, Cambodia and Laos has their fair share of horny, despicable Westerners yet nobody says “that’s the West for you”.

The reasons why Africa, with all it’s great natural resources, has not progressed is an interesting subject for me.

Think it has to be the culture, ultimately. White farmers made Zimbabwe fertile and now the locals are destroying that. Something about the mentality of the local people that is so difficult for us to understand and I think their religion has a ton to do with it.

Sorry, that was inadvertently funny
