Rollins to step back from Bachmann role By: Maggie Haberman September 5, 2011 05:56 PM EDT

Ed Rollins is going to be stepping back from day-to-day management of the Michele Bachmann campaign, and moving into a senior advisory role, he said in an interview.

Rollins said the reason for the change is personal — his health and the rigors of a campaign.

"I wish I was 40 years old, but I'm not," he told POLITICO. "I'm 68 years old, I had a stroke a year and a half ago. I'm worn out."

I’ve been in organizations with “senior advisory” types in the past. I’ve never seen one do a damn thing yet.

Not confirmed, but MB coffer is drying very fast, may have to exit very fast.

If it's not confirmed, it's just your opinion, so why start another rumor?

I'm a Sarah guy, but I hate to see FReepers dumping so quickly on our candidates.

I’m thinking the Dick Morris, Bill OReilly, Krauthammer, Karl Rove bunch...

And more... Romney is/was "front runner" due to the PTB. Nobody crosses PTB... his folk torpedoed Palin in the last vestiges of the McCain "campaign." Nothin to see here folks, just a tired old man takin on easier tasks. Yah, that's it.

Michelle Obama’s staff turnover rate is a bit higher than it was for previous first ladies. In just under three years, she has gone through three chiefs of staff, three secretaries, two communication directors and, as of today, her press secretary will be making a grand exit. So, why the mass exodus, you ask? According to an expert in Politico, it may have something to do with her skin color:

“She is, if possible, under more scrutiny than even other modern first ladies, being the first African-American first lady,” said Katherine Jellison, a history professor at Ohio University who specializes in first ladies. “She also represents a new generation, really the first post-boomer generation of first lady.”

While the idea that people are being driven away due to stress and scrutiny has its merits, some would argue that Obama‘s treatment in media and society hasn’t differed greatly from that of other first ladies (some may even claim she‘s received more favorable media coverage at various times during her husband’s first term). Jellison‘s argument’s seem oddly similar to Rep. Clyburn’s (who said that President Obama’s problems are the result of “the color of his skin”). Others claim that she can be tough to work for:

Sources familiar with the East Wing, who asked not to be named discussing internal dynamics, described the first lady’s office as a challenging workplace, where grueling hours and the expectations of a formidable boss intensify the demands of managing a popular first lady’s schedule, image and agenda.

Just reminded me of the turnover of Michelle’s staff. Of course, they were all just racists.

I believe with all my heart that Bachmann was enticed into the race by someone to take out Palin, which she failed at, so rollins went into bachmann’s campaign with the intention of taking HER OUT of the race. He did. And now he can settle into the role of making sure she stays out. The question is, who paid him.

The conspiracy theorist is strong in this one.

Seriously, put down the tin foil dude. Bachmann ran because Bachmann wanted to run. Bachmann hired Rollins because Bachmann wanted to hire Rollins. Bachmann WON the Iowa Straw Poll and is still a top 3 candidate. The reason Bachmann is having problems is because Perry joined the race and has become the anti-Romney candidate she was hoping to be. Perry has years of executive experience and is Governor of a huge state, Bachmann is just a congresswoman of one congressional district. At the moment, many more Republican primary voters think Perry has a better chance to beat Romney and then Hussein than Bachmann does. Simple as that.

The survey showed Perry leading the field handily with 26 percent of GOP primary voters.
Iow, 74% of GOP primary voters think Perry should not run.

“Seriously, put down the tin foil dude.”

Seriously, I wasn’t wearing one....dude.

“Bachmann ran because Bachmann wanted to run.”

Of course she did. For weeks people, including the press, had been telling her she should. If Palin could run, why shouldn’t she? They built her up and appealed to her vanity. Oh, yes, she wanted to run...and the hype convinced her. So why the hype?

“Bachmann hired Rollins because Bachmann wanted to hire Rollins.”

Yep, she did. So did she go to him, or did he come to her? After all, he had said he wanted to work for her because Sarah was just too stupid to run and Michele was so much smarter. Remember? And the first thing he did was publicly trash Sarah Palin, because Michele couldn’t...not publicly.
Ever see Devil’s Advocate? “Vanity. My favorite sin.”

“Bachmann WON the Iowa Straw Poll and is still a top 3 candidate.”

Bachmann won the Iowa State Poll because she spent a huge amount of money. But even at that point, rollins had started changing her approach to people and holding her back, at times, even hiding her. By the end of the poll days, people were already grumbling about not having access to her. And she has fallen from the top tier.

“The reason Bachmann is having problems is because Perry joined the race and has become the anti-Romney candidate she was hoping to be.”

The reason is PARTIALLY perry, but she could have overcome that had she been managed right. rollins virtually disappeared her after she won in Iowa. She stayed in her bus during the republican dinner and kept them waiting when she was supposed to speak, lied about a family reunion she never attended. After that, almost every appearance she made was led off by a gaffe that was just horrendous...and completely unnecessary. and rollins was right in the thick of it, hands on.
Why a gaffe a day? Is Michele Bachmann really that stupid, or was she getting bad advice, bad talking points from her own campaign? rollins made her look like a fool. And then that ad about perry was just slime, provably untrue when there were a myriad of truths she could have used, juvenile, unprofessional, and in the end, laughable. It made her look unserious and she hasn’t been taken seriously since. rollins. Mission accomplished.

“Perry has years of executive experience and is Governor of a huge state, Bachmann is just a congresswoman of one congressional district.”

You can diminish her all you like. You could not possibly diminish her more than she allowed rollins to diminish her. If she had stayed on message and not changed it every day; if she had put forth policy statements that made sense; if she had not disappeared off the stage, she could have stayed viable. She can’t now. And that is directly attributable to rollins.

“At the moment, many more Republican primary voters think Perry has a better chance to beat Romney and then Hussein than Bachmann does.”

There is enough wrong with perry that Michele Bachmann could have stayed on message and made her case and kept herself visible and high profile. Instead, she hid out. That is also attributable to rollins.

“Simple as that.”

You betcha.
