Eight people were shot at a violent Bronx house party early this morning, including three kids ages 11, 13 and 14, police said.
Cops are hunting Oneil Dasilva, 17, who allegedly opened fire around 3:40 a.m. in the backyard of the Williamsbridge home on East 221st Street near Carpenter Avenue where the party was being held.

A 24-year-old man was shot twice in the chest and was taken to Montefiore hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The other victims include a 19-year-old man shot in the buttocks, a 21-year-old man shot in the thigh, a 24-year-old man shot in the forearm, a 14-year-old girl shot in the back, a 17-year-old boy shot in the pelvis, an 11-year-old boy shot in the leg and a 13-year-old girl shot in the thigh.

When I worked in television, we did an all night shoot in the ghetto of a major east coast city. You wouldn’t believe how many children under 12 were out watching us filming at 4 o’clock in the morning. I couldn’t believe it at the time.

First of all what were kids that young doing at a party that late? Second at the risk of sounding like an uptight old fart, I’ve come to the conclusion that most criminal mishaps can be avoided if people were just I’m by midnight. Seems like most of the gang violence and shootings here in the LA area occur in the early morning hours when a combination of too much alcohol and need for sleep causes peoples’ best judgment, if they even really have any, goes out the window and tempers more easily flare. Go home! Is it really so bad to be home and asleep, or at least inside safely watching a movie or something after midnight?? Of course I’m speaking as a person with a job and responsibilities in life, something most of these all night partiers lack.

The reason for 'checking weapons at the door' was to ensure safety, and to protect the participants from charges of illegal possession when the police inevitably arrived.

The obvious answer to stopping these type of situations is to ban parties.
