Gov. Rick Perry highlighted important legislation, passed during the 82nd Legislative Session that takes effect September 1, including a balanced budget that doesnt raise taxes, and key measures that protect the lives of the unborn and strengthen the states legal climate, private property rights, and penalties for those convicted of human trafficking.
This session we further strengthened our states robust economy the way we said we would: by living within our means, balancing our budget without raising taxes and protecting the Rainy Day Fund, Gov. Perry said. Texans can be proud of the steps we have taken to cut down on frivolous lawsuits; protect the lives of the unborn and the integrity of elections; strengthen private property rights and increase penalties for human traffickers and sex offenders who exploit the most vulnerable in our communities.
This past legislative session provided a balanced budget for the 2012-13 biennium without raising taxes, allocating more than half of state funds to education, preserving more than $6 billion in the states Rainy Day Fund, and extending the tax exemption for small businesses to 2014, a measure Gov. Perry fought to continue, that will keep taxes low for thousands of employers across the state.

Mostly low wage jobs taken by the ‘cross-border’ Mehicanos.
When was the last time you heard someone talk about the "robust economy"? Sounds like a winner.
Low wage jobs beat the hell out of no jobs.
That claim has been debunked. E for effort
W had a robust economy until 2006 when the dimwits took over the house. America has been sinking since...!!GO PERRY GO!!
And was balanced by printed stimulus money. Left that part out.
Very true. The economy took a deep downward turn after it was declared that Pelosi and Reid would be controlling Congress.
For years up to 2006 the democrats continued to talk down the economy calling 5% unemployment "the worst economy since the great depression".
Now that we're above 9% unemployment things are really looking up, according to those same people and the media.
I say we eliminate the corporate tax.

Opinion presented as fact.
Respectfully disagree.
Many IT jobs here in Austin and Texas area south of San Antonio is booming with oil jobs. Ditto with Odessa/Midland.
Anyone with a CDL gets a job on the spot-—12hr to 18 hr.
I named him and his buddies that constantly post nonsense in regard to Governor Perry, "Wedge" simplest tool known to man! They have no life beyond posting on FR lies, half truths and ignorant innuendo's. Fortunately they do little harm...because they preach to themselves and then make posts congratulating themselves. So my advice is ignore them because it's impossible to cure "stupid". Cheers
Just because Rick Perry and Texas unfairly stole IT jobs and oil jobs that pay minimum wage to illegal aliens, wait a minute nevermind. Wrong thread.
I say we eliminate property tax.
Is this true? Did Perry actually get a budget through that spent less total dollars than the previous year?

One thing I'm looking for is someone with executive experience in government who has actually led his (city/county/state) through an absolute reduction in total dollars spent. I'm not talking about lower growth rates, or cuts in "inflation adjusted dollars." I want someone who spent less total dollars in year x than they did in year x-1.
I've asked this on other forums and never gotten an answer to the question. Generally, PerryBots tell me that my and Ruling Class Republican operatives tell me that expectations are too high.
The number seems low, even for a state budget, but that's also a positive sign.

and he vetoed over $3 billion dollars in spending.
Another trait of my "dream candidate" is one who is willing to promise to use the veto pen. Actually, I want a Republican Grover Cleveland, who is willing to break the records set by Grover Cleveland for vetoes in a single session and vetoes in a single presidential term. If we can get that, I might even consider re-election to break the two presidential term veto record (also held by Grover Cleveland).
And any candidate who promises to start most veto letters with, "I've looked all through Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, and nowhere in that document do I see where Congress has the enumerated authority to act in this area."
According to Sarah Palin. Yes.
"Governor Perry is a conservative leader who values common sense solutions and he knows what it takes to create jobs and to grow an economy and help communities thrive. He's got the results to prove it. Balancing the budget time after time. He's the only governor since World War 2 to cut general revenue spending - more than once. He reduced taxes for 40,000 small businesses and he vetoed over $3 billion dollars in spending."
