Palin On Politicians And Crony Capitalism: "I'm Not For Sale"
40min video via RCP ^ | September 3, 2011 | Sarahcuda

Former Governor Sarah Palin gave the keynote speech at a Tea Party rally in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday afternoon.

"We sent a new class of leaders to DC, but immediately the permanent political class, they tried to co-opt them. Because the reality is we are governed by a permanent political class, until we change that," Palin said about career politicians. "They talk about massive, unsustainable debt and yet they keep incurring more. They spend, they print, they borrow, they spend more, and they stick us with the bill. Then they pat their own backs and they claim that they faced and solved the debt crisis that they got us in."

On crony capitalism: "So many of them, they arrive in Washington, DC of modest means and then miraculously throughout the years they end up becoming very, very wealthy. Well, it's because they derive power and their wealth from their access to our money, to taxpayer dollars."

"They use it to bail out their friends on Wall Street. And their corporate cronies. And to reward contributors. And to buy votes via earmarks. There is so much waste. And there is a name for this. It's called 'corporate crony capitalism,'" she said.

“Like you, I’m not for sale. I believe in the free market and that is why I detest crony capitalism. And Barack Obama has shown us cronyism on steroids. It will lead to our downfall if we don’t stop it now.”

The speech, roughly 40 minutes, ranged from politics to policy. Palin made sure to address reforming taxes and entitlements. Palin called for eliminating all federal corporate income taxes and called entitlement reform "our duty."

I watched live on CSPAN.

She is staking out a conservative position on Ralph Nader ground.

Brilliant politics with brilliant delivery.

Palin will go down in history as the best retail politician of the 21st Century so far, eclipsing Barak Obama for her rhetorical skills. She is, I believe, a "Liberty Populist" of the Goldwater and Reagan school...though more (l)ibertarian than Reagan.

She will attract high numbers of "independents" and "disaffecteds" if she decides to run. There will be folks who haven't voted in 25years marking their ballots for Palin. She'll have no trouble raising money either.

Libertarian Populism delivered with the skill of Huey Long...with a Nationalist/Exceptionalist bent.

That girl is good at what she does.

Sarah: America! Hell Yeah!

To: No!

* Repeated references to “the permanent political class” and “the guys
who are too concerned with winning future elections to do what needs
to be done to get America out of the mess that we’re in”

This is how she beat Murkowski in Alaska.

I pray to God for her safety and preservation from harm.

Please Lord keep her safe.

It is in no current politician's best interest for her to run. She has and will continue to be attacked from both sides of the "isle" and they have nearly limitless resources to do so.

She can, with the "will of the people" behind her, bring it all crashing down. It NEEDS to come crashing down and those responsible held to account.....

Pray for America....

Huey Long had FDR scared. Way back, a friend in graduate school told me that if Long had lived, he might have beaten Roosevelt in 1936, or given him a great scare. I scoffed that that but then I saw some of his later films. Gone was the corn-pone speech and stemwinding style. In was the pose of the statesman. Russell Long was his son and US senator for many years and a very mind-mannered man. He looked a lot like his father. In the film I saw Long acted as moderately as his son. Except the eyes and the quick, quick intelligence. He was running for president and has already positioned himself to the left of FDR. With him out of the picture, FDR had only Alf Landon to worry about. Not much.

That's easy for her to say, she makes $12 million a year.

Why would she give up $12 million a year to run for president?

For the same reason Palin gave up her six figure job as Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (see here and here) at a time when her family was not wealthy: because she's a sincere "public servant" who's deeply committed to serving something greater than herself.

It is sad how you are obsessed with belittling Sarah.

If Sarah had but a penny to her name, she still would NOT be for sale. Sarah is not like any other politician running today. She has a servant's heart.

If she does, maybe you'll give the entire FR board an apology?

It would show poorly on you if you didn't.......

I've been saying I have no idea if she's running, and will be supportive of her choice, she's a great voice for conservatism and will be an incredibly effective voice for a long time, candidate or not.

I haven't listened to her speech yet, but most people are saying she sounded like she's a serious candidate.

You will need to do some serious grovelling if she runs, heck, you should be embarrassed with what you've said even if she doesn't.
