MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

“If the Israelis cannot seal their border against smugglers with a concrete and steel barrier, what makes anyone other than a delusional fool think that the US can seal its border with Mexico against smugglers and illegals seeking to enter the US? “
Perhaps those “delusional fools” are neither delusional, nor so foolish as you presumed them to be. They may even understand statistics sufficiently to realize that while no fence is perfect, good fences keep the large majority of criminals out.
Being as you are from a super socialized state, you may not be aware that most Americans are underwhelmed by illegal immigrants.
Just mentionin’.
I could have built a fence from one end to the other already and have millions left over, from the funds that have been wasted. 50000 watts would keep anyone from touching it more than once.
My top issue is jobs, followed by WOT, followed by illegal alien invasion, followed by crime (which is also in good part illegals). So, if he doesn't want to start with a fence and even give it a try, then I don't want to give him a try.
What is Romney's position???

“Israel plans to build a wall along its border with Egypt in a bid to stem the flow of migrants and militants. The $270 million structure will block two main routes along the frontier and use advanced surveillance equipment”

“Upon completion, the barriers total length will be approximately 760 kilometres (470 mi)”

“illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Volts, damn it volts, that is the voltage they use to turn elephants. That may watts and you make a cinder.
You could have crossed into Western territory through Slovenia presuming you had a Western passport. Still, that was a fairly heavily fortified area.
Looking up a piece on the Brandenburg gate it seems there was the BIG WALL and the SMALL WALL ~ the Small Wall was on the Russian side of the deal and it cut East Germans off from the Brandenberg gate.
This could have been the area you were messing around in.
I doubt it was a mine field, but who knows. Fur shur they had your picture.
Jobs, the cold hard facts, you remove ten thousand illegals you have ten thousand job open. And you reduce crime and welfare hand outs.
He already said a fence was a NO Go,Better to pay Billions for this Pestilence pouring in, The POS Bush's have the same mantra,
Their way is that of the Puke RINO, and his Fairys were babbling about Perrys Dream Act saying it is better to have "educated" Border Criminals running loose.
That's the very definition of a RINO.
The troops would not destroy access to land, homes or water and create the drive for tunnels the way the fence does.
They find a tunnel in San Diego at least once a year.
They found a pvc 4 inch pipe this week in a Von’s grocery store, the newest way to smuggle drugs.
According to the map posted at #198, there isn't a security fence along the Jordan River border. The Jordan is a relatively small stream, running thru a desert environment, separating two countries -- one of whom has an illegal immigrant problem. In other words, the situation is exactly like the Rio Grande between Texas and Mexico.
But you say there are soldiers overlooking the Jordan, watching...and they may shoot you.
I suggest that Israel has, through experience and common sense, already discovered the optimum solution. All we need to do is copy it.
As Israel demonstrates, a fence along the river isn't a good solution under the circumstances. But surveillance and soldiers with weapons are.
They find a tunnel in San Diego all the time. 10 in the last 4 years:

and then, there’s this one designed right in

It’s not ‘citywide’ The fence runs miles into the eastern San Diego County desert. And fences stop vehicles. I’ve driven all over the eastern San Diego County desert and at times, never knew if I was still in America or in Mexico. It’s that simple to cross but with a fence it wouldn’t be.
PS: I will not vote for a RINO for President in '12. I consider Perry just a run of the mill RINO. Maybe a notch above McAmnesty. Not worth voting for.
I've already said I couldn't prove it tonight. But then you can't prove I'm full of crap on the subject. I've given you leads on where you might find your proof but if you can't accept my word on it, then so be it.
I came to Texas in 2007 and so this issue was one that put me off greatly back then but not an issue to me at all now.
You sure are raising a fuss over what isn't an issue with you. BTW, my family came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred, fought in the Texas Revolution and great-great-grandpappy was one of the scouts who captured and brought Santa Anna to Sam Houston. For grins and giggles, I've seen LBJ's belly button. So, don't talk to me about what Texans should or shouldn't consider an issue.
Much has been criticized of Governor Perrys initial support for the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC). As President of the Conservative Coalition of the Texas Legislature, I was deeply involved in that entire process. My rural district was directly in the path of the TTC and the project was largely viewed by my constituents as an abuse of the governmental power of eminent domain.
Truth is, the TTC started as a expansion on the I-35 corridor. The plan was added to legislation by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as a new branch of highway that ran from south Texas to the north right through my district. TXDOT presented facts that upon the completion of the Panama Canal expansion many of the trading freighters, which currently only serve the West Coast, would be able to bring their cargo to Texas ports.
It was anticipated that this would place a tremendous burden on the current highway system as it heads north. However, the flawed TXDOT presentation of the plan and threats to private land ownership were not handled well. Citizens throughout Texas were insulted by the methods of potential property seizure, foreign control of Texas properties and other abuses.
It was wrong, and when presented with the will of Texas citizens, Governor Perry put a stop to it. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2772684/posts
Another concern with projecting short fence results into long fence results, is that people bent on crossing will go to the end of the fence. They don’t bother trying to scale the fence because it is so much easier to walk around its end. If there is less choice, then serious attempts will be made to scale the fence.
It was still referred to as "Behind the iron curtain." On the train going to E.Berlin I remember seeing tanks in the woods that looked like they were practicing.
When I was there it was nasty in Berlin. If you signed in to go to E Berlin and weren't back when you said you would be, they called the American Embassy. If you weren't back within a few hours of when you said, they notified the next of kin. E Berlin was a dreary place.
I loved Prague but Lubliana (sp?) was sad. Actually, both were sad. We had "guides" to show us around. It was their commie job...to indoctrinate us. The shelves of stores were mostly empty...but I didn't see any Walmart shoppers, either. Of coursse there was no Walmart yet.
W. Berlin was alive and the nightlife was great. I loved it.
Would you like for me to publish the letters I wrote home? :)
The fence on "urban land' in East San Diego County.
