MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

New Hampshire ought to focus on building a fence on its border with Massachusetts.
Maybe landmines, too

Any idea what he proposes?
Apparently talking about it like we've been doing for the last decade or so.

How about...
Build the FENCE, and use troops, technology, and monitoring as the solution to illegal immigration?

And how many times have I said Palin has been wrong to support both of them and others? Clearly you can not see the difference between governor, etc. and President. She was WRONG on McCain because he's quite simply a liar. Say one thing, do another. Maybe you like Republicans to stab you in the back. I don't.
And if Palin thought Perry was such a great prospect, she would have endorsed him already. She hasn't.

Perry supports troops, technology, and monitoring as the solution to illegal immigration.
Bush supported the same and it amounted to nothing.

You know, if youre paying attention at all, its obvious this guy is playing both ends against the middle. Always. The same thing the Dems said about Romney fits Perry to a tee as well: He's not a middle-of-the-road politician, he's a cover-the-road politician.
May he meet the same political fate...

the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build. He's right, of course and anyone who gives this subject more than just a knee-jerk thought will understand why. A fence is a stupid idea. It would cost billions of dollars to build something that could be defeated by ladders, snips and, at most, a battery-powered sawzall.
I've seen the fences along Arizona and California. They're jokes. In some places they're only chain-link. Think a fence is going to stop illegals? Sure, maybe if you build it two hundred feet high, fifty feet wide and have it patrolled by armed guards, alligators, grizzly bears and laser beams. Really think it's going to look like that? Building a fence is nothing more than a "feel-good" response to a very complex issue. Perry understands this and I'll give him props for speaking honestly as opposed to spouting "I'll build the biggest darned fence ever!!!" nonsense just to please voters.

Ah so, the usual McCain, ‘doing the jobs Americans won’t do’ crap. I guarantee you if you offered cash for a days labor here in Michigan, you’d have no problem filling those jobs.

“I oppose a fence too. Too expensive and will not work. “
Well, the fence in Israel worked GREAT there. Yes, it would cost a few billion, but unlike Green Energy ‘investments’, there would actually be a return...a HUGE one.

Texas will become a blue state as well eventually anyway. Nearly all the border counties are already voting democrat.

But personally, I am opposed to a border fnece
If obama is re-elected, a border fence may stop our senior citizens from heading to Central America for hip replacements and chemotherapy

There are plenty of folks who successfully built and operated a big fence with a minefield in Europe ~ they can be hired as consultants.
To: NormsRevenge
While I agree with Perry that a fence in and of itself would be a waste of time, money and effort; in conjunction with other measures, it would be useful.

It would be manned and nobody would get through. It would pay for itself in about a year. Your scenario of chained link fences wouldn't cost billions, so what is your point? How many illegals do you hire?

There are places along the border that strategic fencing worked, particularly in the metropolitan areas, Perry said. The idea that were going to build a wall from El Paso to Brownsville doesnt make sense cause the fact of the matter is you know, number one, youd never get it built, and itd cost billions of dollars ... by the time you go from Tijuana to Brownsville. Perry said that he does support putting boots on the ground and using aviation assets (i.e. aerial drones) to secure the border.********************************
Fortunately, putting boots on the ground and using aerial drones costs nothing.

I don’t agree with Perry on this issue, but I don’t believe that Israel has built 1,200 miles of fence, have they? Also, they have manned towers along their wall.
