Interviews with a dozen advisers, including those inside campaigns and those aligned with outside groups, show lines of attack likely to emerge......
While Mr. Romneys position as an early leader in the race has been shaken by Mr. Perry, it will almost certainly not be Mr. Romney who engages Mr. Perry first. He is already the subject of criticism from other rivals, including former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who questions Mr. Perrys credentials.
Well see how conservative Rick Perry really is, Mr. Santorum said.
Here in Iowa, where the caucuses start the nominating contest, Mr. Perry is placing a high priority on the state. Mr. Romney is planning to decide how aggressively to compete here based on three factors: whether Mrs. Bachmann can show she has staying power, whether Mr. Perry continues to gain strength and needs to be stopped, and if Ms. Palin runs. A Romney adviser said the campaign was prepared to play heavily and hard if our strategy dictates it.
While Mr. Romney has significantly stepped up his campaign efforts in response to Mr. Perry, advisers said he was considerably more reserved and less prone to panicky shifts in strategy than four years ago. The fact that he is on his second presidential run, aides said, is among his biggest attributes.
This is going to be a long, drawn-out primary, said Gov. David Heineman of Nebraska, a supporter of Mr. Romney. Mitt has been through this before. Thats a significant asset.

High praise, indeed!
Mitt Romney speaks to supporters at a GOP picnic, Friday May 27, 2011
let the left run with this idea. it will increase their hubris (if that were possible).
The commie libs at the Slimes are lovin’ it. Their boy is going to be able to kick back with a huge bowl of popcorn.
Milt to Supporters: "See you in twelve years, partner."
Anyone have a photo of Rick Perry signing the Texas DREAM Act?
Shaken? Since Perry got in, Willard Rino-me has been literally trampled underfoot.
Romney has the Mormon church and its money behind him. He’s honed his act. And the RNC is no doubt behind him, too. But beware, folks. Bone up on Mormonism to see it’s close resemblance to Islam!! The Muslims, I’ve heard, are largely behind Obama, but some more conservative Muslims might even vote for Romney, One place to check out the Mormon ideals is Jan Markell’s Olive tree ministries. She had quite a piece on Glenn Beck and his Israel trip, including much info on the Mormon church in her Aug. 30 edition. And remember Romneycare!
The media love Mitt - Republican lite.
Meanwhile, they dump all over anyone with true conservative chops.
if romeny’s the pubie candidate,
i’m not voting.
[Perry] is already the subject of criticism from other rivals, including former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania... "We'll see how conservative Rick Perry really is," Mr. Santorum said... You bring up a point here. Usually the left goes after a candidate on the right if they are Mormon(yes I know he is a huge RINO). Haven’t heard a thing about for Romney.
Well, I am a firm conservative, and people should know these things before they go to the voting booth. Please check it out.
What a violent headline! Sounds like the media wants some Loughner-like psycho to take out a few republicans.
Rickzilla!
I love it.
The media keeps pushing Romney on us. It’s like
when Mc Cain was running, deja vu all over again. .....I don’t like Rommney!
Now it is time to rock and roll...the perritos will be crying like little babies over this..
I’m waiting for the NYT to next come out with pictures with crosshairs marked on them...... /s =.=
I do NOT want McCain II running for President. I hate having my candidate chosen for me.
