Perry actually promised Texas voters that he'd serve out his term, and not run for president during the last gubernatorial election here. There was some speculation that he would get himself elected, then run for president. Turns out it was right.

Very interesting. Did he actually promise, or just say that he wasn't planning on running for Pres? Do you happen to know for sure? Changing one's mind with regard to stated plans is one thing; breaking a promise made in order to get votes is a whole 'nother talk show.

"Read my lips" comes to mind.

I knew that someone would challenge me on that .. LOL.

Here's a link/excerpt to one report of his statement:

"I have great interest in who the president is going to be in 2012," he said before his smashing gubernatorial primary victory Tuesday. "It won't be me. I have no interest in going to Washington, D.C."

"I don't want to be president of the United States. I'm not going to run for the presidency of the United States,"
Perry told Reuters in an interview in the Texas state capital.

Typical politician! He said he wasn't going to run before he said he was going to run! Kinda reminds me of something else...

"READ MY LIPS"

"I VOTED FOR IT BEFORE I VOTED AGAINST IT"
