You are right. The Cajon Pass cuts thru the mountains, but once I'm at my relative's house in Hisperia, I can look due south just a few miles to the northern side of those mountains.
5 to 14 to ???
5 to 14 north to 58 east at Mojave to Barstow where you can pick up 15 to Las Vegas.
Do you have reservations?
will they hold them?
Yep a suite at the hotel.
looks like quite the scenic route but it’ll should get ya there.. wish I had my old Z.. nothing like a moonlit ride under the desert sky the T-tops out..
58 between Mojave and Barstow is an entertaining drive, lot of two lane and some, ...shall we say “interesting” desert “homes” along the way.
They may dump enough on this thing to corral it if the winds die off later but that fuel looks awful dry.. could burn awhile.. this is at about 4,000 foot elevation, fwiw
Lucky You, I’m baching it here with the poodles.. Hopefully, this thing doesn’t get nastier this week-end..
So from your side hesperia is at the base of said mountains
I probably worded my 1st a little incorrectly.
Lots of dry underbrush , chaparral, grasses.. one firefighter injured and airlifted out..
DC-10 onsite..

In my unprofessional opinion...either they’ve got a handle on this or the wind has changed directions.
I’ll be real surprised, though, if I see stars tonight as usual.
Missed all the fun. Was in LA Thursday and didn’t feel the quake and Thursday night went back to Vegas via 58. Never did like that long climb up the pass. So I missed all the fun Friday by leaving early
For the record I-15 was packed around midnight and I was doing between 70 and 80 and was still being passed like I was standing still. Not cool when it’s a 18 wheeler
IF you’re still here, click the link again and reread the traffic notice...
And have fun in Vegas!
No Worries have a great week end
Got through with ease. Smelled smoke in Bakersfield getting gas. Saw no fire or smoke.
