"Fact is, as recently as a couple of decades ago, we had no Republican primary in my part of rural Texas.
"Thus, Governor Perry, who entered state politics farther back than me, was courageous enough to take a stand early on and join other statesmen like Ronald Reagan and Phil Gramm in acknowledging that the Democratic Party had left their conservative beliefs behind.
"Much has been criticized of Governor Perrys initial support for the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC). As President of the Conservative Coalition of the Texas Legislature, I was deeply involved in that entire process. My rural district was directly in the path of the TTC and the project was largely viewed by my constituents as an abuse of the governmental power of eminent domain.
"Truth is, the TTC started as a expansion on the I-35 corridor. The plan was added to legislation by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as a new branch of highway that ran from south Texas to the north right through my district. TXDOT presented facts that upon the completion of the Panama Canal expansion many of the trading freighters, which currently only serve the West Coast, would be able to bring their cargo to Texas ports.
"It was anticipated that this would place a tremendous burden on the current highway system as it heads north. However, the flawed TXDOT presentation of the plan and threats to private land ownership were not handled well. Citizens throughout Texas were insulted by the methods of potential property seizure, foreign control of Texas properties and other abuses.
"It was wrong, and when presented with the will of Texas citizens, Governor Perry put a stop to it."
It would have carried more weight if he’d said: Tell your constituents you met with the Governor of Texas and he said, the TTC was a bad idea and it’s over.....”I WAS WRONG!!!”
Parish Councilman Leroy Fontaine Endorses Buddy Rhoemer for President.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Excellent!
Representative Christian is indeed a TRUE conservative who has been right in the thick of things here in Texas for many years now.
This is an important endorsement!
Palin is waiting a little longer to cast her endorsement for the next MOST likely Conservative nominee. I think that will happen before the convention.
Her endorsement will be seismic. Whoever gets it will have a vastly enhanced opportunity to actually BE the nominee. THAT individual, as President, will find a place for Palin on his/her staff/administration and she will be wonderfully well positioned to run for President afterward.
I have said this before: Palin is here to stay! Is that too crazy?
I agree!
We already have an apologizer-in-chief, don’t need another.
Give me a man who acts on his convictions and yet can still stop to listen and act correctly when shown how he’s wrong.
If your hero Rick Perry manages to become President, will he stop pandering to La Raza and CAIR? I want an answer and I want it now, and I want it on the record. Otherwise, your crony capitalist career politician Perry can go to hell.
I generally agree with everything you said Smarty but I think the endorsement of Rick Perry will come sooner rather than later.
If she does that and Perry becomes president she WILL be, at the very least, appointed to an important ambassadorship.
Well, part of that answer would be that there is no semblance of pandering to either. He did give a speech to La Raza in San Antonio, but did not give any ground - literal or figurative.
He has never sought any sort of rapprochement with CAIR. In fact, they protested The Response, just last month.
I’m sure that they didn’t like his answer to the question about the “ground zero mosque, either: “”To build a mosque near Ground Zero would be insensitive to the victims and families of 9/11 and would make the healing process much more difficult for everyone that was touched by this tragedy.””
Even in this, however, he relied on his basic ethics:
“”Perry, who has campaigned on states’ rights and local control, said he would prefer that planners find another site far from Ground Zero. But he supports the right of local citizens to authorize it.
“””I’m a big believer in freedom of religion but believe it would be best for all involved to put the facility elsewhere,” Perry said. “However, zoning is a local responsibility and as a staunch supporter of the 10th Amendment, I do not think the federal government should take steps to intercede or overrule the wishes of local residents. The citizens of New York City will decide the fate of this building.”””
Sara Palin is going to be around for a long time, thankfully.
She will be part of the next Conservative Presidential Administration. She will be groomed so to speak, so that her natural abilities may be cultivated and showcased.
Any Conservative foolish enough to turn their back on Palin, almost doesn’t belong in the WH.
That said, she will be ready once Perry (I think) leaves office after 8 years as President
I agree!
Have you seen the story at the link below?

I think John Fund has it just about right!
YEP!!!
Typical Rick Perry. I have to admit the man is an absolute master of con-artist politics. He talks out of both sides of his mouth. He claims to be against abortion and gay marriage, but uses “states’ rights” to justify their pepetuation.
I suggest you look up his disgusting statements about Islam. Islam is nothing but an imperialist cult which has massacred my Christian brethren and driven them from their homes. Mohammed was a psychopathic crackpot and a murderous warlord, like all his successors, yet your hero Rick Perry thinks Islam is a “great religion” and Muslims are “good citizens.”
Governor Perry is absolutely pro-life and pro-family. He understands exactly why the one-celled human zygote has the right not to be killed and why marriage is only between one man and one woman.
He is also a man of principles and understands - and supports - the necessity of Constitutional amendments if we are to protect life and marriage across the Nation rather than State by State.
“That the issue is a difficult one and invokes strong emotion makes it no less outrageous that nine unelected judges took it upon themselves to declare when life begins and did so based on a total fiction. And perhaps worst of all, the Courts creation of a right to privacy in the Constitution has become a springboard for even more activism.”

“Shouldn’t such a fundamental issue about the moral ordering of society be determined by the people themselves? Of course it shouldif you have any respect for the Constitution, federalism, or freedom.”
Perry, Rick; Newt Gingrich (2010-11-15). Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington (p. 109). Little, Brown and Company. Kindle PC Edition.
This is a great endorsement.
It may not mean alot to folks outside of Texas, but a real Texas conservative stalwart endorsing Perry sends a good signal to the conservative base about Perry.
That’s right,
You’re not from Texas.
Texas loves you anyway.
“If your hero Rick Perry manages to become President, will he stop pandering to La Raza and CAIR?”
He never started pandering in the first place. Just like ANY good politician that listens to ALL their constituents whether they are voting for them or not, Perry and other Texas Republicans do listen to La Raza, sometimes give speeches to them, listen to concerns, etc. why, that’s where the votes are. he hasnt and wont pander by changing principles or basic positions.
“I want an answer and I want it now, and I want it on the record.”
lol. go ahead and hold your breath until blue in the face.
“He claims to be against abortion and gay marriage”
... and has a solid record of actions as governor to prove it.
