Wait — they let you through Security without a boarding pass?
They did that for me when my 14 y/o son was flying alone. They needed my driver's license and gave me a gate pass. No TSA issues.
The airlines issue family member gate passes to the service members family coming to greet them or see them off. All you need is to confirm he/she is on the flight and a valid ID. I guess my retired military ID tipped them off. :-)
