SANTA FE, New Mexico (Reuters) - A New Mexico judge on Wednesday blocked a move by the state's Republican governor to make it harder for illegal immigrants to keep driver's licenses in the state.

Governor Susana Martinez's administration last month ordered the state to reverify the physical residency of foreign nationals who hold New Mexico driver's licenses in order to get or keep their licenses.But District Court Judge Sarah Singleton in Santa Fe issued a temporary restraining order blocking the program, arguing in a brief ruling that "irreparable injury" would occur from "constitutional deprivations to the applicants

"MALDEF will continue to fight throughout this legal process to obtain a final end to this licensing scheme and to restore the rule of law," Martha Gomez, a staff attorney for MALDEF, said in a statement. Restore rule of law, right, what laws do they mean ?

Where did this MORON (let me guess, DEMO-RAT, activist, so-called "Jurist"--Singleton--) get here legal edumacation? Through an online-correspondence course, a paper mill degree program or mayhaps a cracker jacks box?

Or perhaps New Mexico has language in their State Constitution which guarantees that a drivers license is a "Right?"

Stoooopid me: And here I (and most others) have been laboring under the [mis]apprehension that being issued a drivers license which allows one to operate a vehicle, was "Privilege?"

Well, I guess that should make it easier for people who get DUI's to argue that Courts should not revoke their driving privileges as that would be "Unconstitutional?"

Won’t be a backlash and it doesn’t matter what the judge’s reasoning is, either. If you put it to a vote, probably 95 percent of people who bother to vote would say they approve of the current system. The state meanwhile has said it fully intends to cha-cha in court in the traditional fashion.
Judges rule. Everyone prefers it to chaos and anarchy. Liberty is so 18th c.
