Our Ambassador In Syria Attacked By Thugs, But Obama Says Nothing
Fox News ^ | September 01, 2011 | Christian Whiton

Pro-regime thugs in Syria harassed and set upon the U.S. ambassador just over a week ago. The event was not publicly reported in Washington until Tuesday, when a journalist discovered a propaganda video exploiting the attack.

The episode reveals an American diplomat with more fortitude and canny than his boss in the White House.

U.S. Ambassador Robert Ford has distinguished himself by symbolically standing with the brutalized people of Syria as they seek freedom from the dictator Assad. Ford has done so through a radical and seldom-used diplomatic technique in the annals of the U.S. Foreign Service: showing up and talking to ordinary people.

Ford’s July visit to the city of Hama, where two generations of Assads have filled the streets with the blood of dissenters, won him the ire of the regime.

His welcome there was perhaps the most heartfelt and significant for a U.S. ambassador since Mark Palmer joined anti-communist protestors in the streets in Hungary as they brought down that regime in 1989.

Ford has since calmly defied regime orders to stay put.

On August 23, Ford was observing a peaceful sit-in by Syrian lawyers opposed to Assad and waiting to see if regime supporters would attack them. Thugs swarmed him and tried to envelope him a in banner with a pro-regime slogan. He was ushered away by U.S. Diplomatic Security personnel who performed admirably.

The event is outrageous because it amounts to a regime-condoned attack on the U.S. president’s envoy to Damascus. Syria is a police state and U.S. officials, especially the top one, are closely monitored by Assad’s men. It is difficult to believe that an attack on the U.S. ambassador would occur without at least a nod from them.

Obviously, the dim witted ambassador or his boss don’t have enough sense to figure it out on their own ... a suggestion ...leave the country before they kill you. Now, see that wasn’t really mentally over taxing was it.

Assad should have been put on notice -- either identify (to US satisfaction) the perpetrators and execute them, or we're at war.

It's more bad news.

Obama only opens his mouth or voluntarily throws himself in front of something when it's good news.

That's called “leadership.”

Why are we sticking our nose into the affairs of these countries?

Oh, I forgot, our president wants the Muslim Brotherhood to take over these countries.

Obama is doing nothing to offend those people. They must have read him the riot act after that raid on Ben Laden

Good point. Anyone with half a brain would now abandon the Obama ship. The Obama administration and all affiliated with it will become a joke, if any of us survive the ineptitude/deconstruction.
Unfortunately, the only people left to fill any of the bloated spots would be only more inept and gullible and ignorant than the present Obama administration and that is really, really, really scary.

The Arab thugs are Obama’s “people.” The ambassador is not, but rather a competent, brave career official. Ford is not a campaign contributor. Big contributors, like clueless Steelers’ heir Rooney, end up with cushy, no-work ambassadorships like Dublin.

Too bad America does not follow it through. MB takes over a segment of the Mid East, with the agitation, they will try to push over the only democracy in the Mid East. If they have success, then they collectively will move on the n big satan.

Thats you and me. All of this and more will hit our shores.

Here we have Obama supporting them, giving them Libya at Americas expense, etc etc all against our interests.

Its all blatantly treasonous and seditious behavior , all impeachable.

I think the article overstates what the video shows.
He was certainly harrassed...I don’t know if I’d say he was attacked. It makes it sound like they beat up on him, and that didn’t happen.
Now, if he hadn’t had security there to whisk him away, he might have been beaten up.

I wonder if more of the media will pick up on this story now.
