While traveling in Spain, a friend and I stayed in a hotel in the old part of Seville. My friend, being tired, lay down for a nap that afternoon and was kept awake by a rooster constantly crowing from a nearby rooftop. This was in a modern European city of over a million souls.
Most folks don’t understand why people in other countries keep chickens and ducks in urban areas. It is because governments and national economies are unstable. Thus raising your own food makes sense, and during a crisis may be your only ticket for a meal.
I believe more and more we will see Americans raising their own food or buying locally from farm producers. The era of the huge farms employing migrant workers, and then ship produce thousands of miles, is coming to an end.
