Later as we ate dinner at the biggest fund raiser ever for the Fla. Keys REC-- Republican Executive Committee with over 220 in attendance Ileana ros Lehtinen our House Rep.introduced Marco who got his start as an unpaid volunteer in her office in the early 90's, had to be a moment for her as well. She received a standing O and as she brought Marco to the stage the room erupted in thunderous applause, with every one standing of course, for several minutes. He was more than surprised and after calming everyone down proceeded to give us 15 or 20 minutes of one of the greatest speeches I will ever hear in person from a future President of the United States. He told of the country that he considers to be the greatest in the world, the USA, but has overspent to the point where its unsustainable. He said that those of us who are already on SS should not have to endure any change but people of his age, early 40's and younger will see a different retirement system. His focus was on the greatness of the country but the need to cut way back on spending or pay a horrific price. It was classic Rubio and the audience was literally spellbound. I will never forget the evening and am glad to share it with other freepers.

He will be president one day - no doubt about it, but will not run for VP, nor should he.

How awesome for you to hear this man in person. I was lucky enough to have him attend our little Rep club (50 or so at the time) very early in his bid for the US senate. You would think that he would be unpolished at that early stage. But he really wasn’t because he speaks about things that are important to him and from his heart. Marco is a rare gem and I will treasure the photo I have of him with me and our little group forever.

Let's hope that Rubio displays the integrity to explain to the confused what every Senator in March of 2008 acknowledged when they all signed Senate Resolution 511, all agreeing with Judge Michael Chertoff when he said:

“My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen,” Chertoff replied. “That is mine, too,” said Leahy.”

Rubio can be Secretary of Labor or, if we don't eliminate it as we should, HUD Secretary. A dozen supreme court cases used, and Minor v. Hapersett established as legal precedence the definition of what our framers all understood. In the words of Chief Justice Morrison Waite:

“The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.”

Minor v. Happersett dealt with alleged privileges conferred by the 14th Amendment. Waite therefore built his decision upon the only “undoubted” class of citizen mentioned in the Constitution before the 14th Amendment, which never mentioned the sex, or enhanced the privileges of citizens. For that he needed to affirm the common law definition of a natural born citizen of which Mrs. Minor was a member. That established precedence, as Obama’s close associates knew well enough to cause them, in October of 2008, to remove references to Minor v. Happersett in citations in other Supreme Court cases from Obama supporter and Harvard classmate's site, justia.com. (Thanks again Leo Donofrio).

To any who doubt, do take the time to read the case. It is a fine example of clarity, even with a few obvious errors that have no effect on the decision.

We could pave the path for the eligibility of Marco Rubio with a constitutional amendment. Article II Section 1 has resisted twenty six attempts at amendment, eight or nine since 2002, a couple of which were probably attempts to by John Conyers to make Obama eligible. Orrin Hatch made no secret of the objective of his proposed Art. II amendment - to make Schwarzenegger eligible. Obama and McCaskill’s SB 2678 in Feb. 2008 was clearly aimed at making McCain eligible, because McCain's candidacy proved cover for Obama's ineligibility. It was not initially posed as an amendment, though strong support might have warranted refiling the bill, had they wanted to face an eligible McCain. They knew there wasn't time, and that a law couldn't affect constitutional interpretation. McCain was born not on sovereign soil. Obama was not born to citizen parents, and every Senator, including Obama knows that violates our common law, and some probably knew that there was precedence.

If Marco Rubio fails to honor, preserve, and defend the Constitution he does not deserve to be called a conservative, or to be trusted as a legislator.

I cannot find anything in the Constitution to suggest jus sanguinis and a jus soli are both required for to meet the Constitution's Natural Born Citizen clause. In fact, the first Congress passed the Naturalization Act of 1790, which stated jus sanguinis alone, met the qualification of a Natural Born Citizen, for children of U.S. Citizens born offshore.

Men can imagine there are requirements beyond those specified in the law, but we are a nation of laws, not men.

Yes the speech he gave was off the cuff, completely extemporaneous, and clearly articulated with a profound message. The problem I had was amazingly most of the audience was county staff and staffers whose agendas and daily activities are diametrically opposed to Rubio’s message, manifested by thwarting small business and capriciously destroying lives. What the hell were they doing there? In no way are they fiscal conservatives, nor friendly toward business. All of them are aligned with the global warming myth as well. The ardent sycophantic toadies accompanying the staff members have no idea of what capitalism really is, they were more interested in keeping their political alliances. Believe me, Marco’s message shoots completely over their heads.
