AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry and Democratic challenger Bill White agree that while plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero have stirred controversy, they don't object to a local decision affirming the Islamic group's right to build it. A New York City planning commission voted this week to clear the way for a planned Islamic community center and mosque near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Perry, who has campaigned on states’ rights and local control, said he would prefer that planners find another site far from Ground Zero. But he supports the right of local citizens to authorize it.

Thanks for setting the record straight. The Left Wing Media is pulling out all the stops and it's only going to get worse!

Are you aware of the significance of that building on 9/11?

Did you see the other politicians take on the subject? Perry’s take is identical to that of any left wing politician.

All I get out of your argument is that you are a statist, advocating that the Federal Government take unto itself powers not enumerated in the U.S. Constitution.

Statism is what Obama, McCain, Clinton, Kerry, Pelosi and that ilk stand for and is anethma to conservative principles.

You are known by the company you keep statist.

Bury pigs at every streetcorner —at every intersection surrounding Ground Zero. And leak it to the press immediately after. And when the ribbon cutting is to take place have a slurry bomber ready to drop a load of pigs blood and guts groundzero at the sight and timed to occur about ten min prior to the ceremony. With plan b dumps on site anytime between now and whatever date set for ribbon cutting. We could also set up loudspeakers and those jumbotrons to broadcast the Marine Corps Hymn , and the entire National Anthem as the jibberjabbers love to broadcast their Muslim calls to prayer and we could have sermons by Patriots like that good ol’boy who burned the Koran for suitable broadcast during the event.

As far as I am concerned New Yorkers who approve of this eat feces.

But it is for the Locals to decide on.

“I’m a big believer in freedom of religion but believe it would be best for all involved to put the facility elsewhere,” Perry said. “However, zoning is a local responsibility and as a staunch supporter of the 10th Amendment, I do not think the federal government should take steps to intercede or overrule the wishes of local residents. The citizens of New York City will decide the fate of this building.”*********

In fact, Perry said it would be best to put the facility somewhere else. Pretty much the same thing Palin said when she appealed to the Muslims to relocate the building.

Perry here is consistent in his desire to have these types of issues decided locally.

I personally don’t want any mosques built at Ground Zero or anywhere else in the US for that matter. But I’m not aware of any major politicians willing to take that position.

Beyond the looney Paul (who thinks we need to listen to the terrorists as we were a primary cause of 9/11) this is not a disqualifying position as no one I’m aware of takes a harder line.

Maybe Perry will visit the Victory Mosque when it opens (on a future 9-11 probably)

Thank you for the quote. Bears repeating

FRiend you are exactly right. F New Yorkers for doing that, but other than stating an opinion, the Federal Government has no constitutional authority.

-"I’ll tell you what stinks here."

I'll tell you what stinks even more. Selecting a Republican nominee that thinks it's ok for the "Religion of Peace" (as the former Gov of Texas said) to build a holy temple on the site where followers of the "Religion of Peace" killed 3000 of our citizens.

That's like letting the Japs build a Shinto Shrine on top of the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor!

What stupidity and insensitivity!
