I trust Mc Cain far more than Obama-bots.
You’d be mistaken to consider these cables the work of diplomats “working for Obama.” Most diplomats are permanent government employees, who have served in overseas posts - often dangerous - for years and decades. They have to move frequently; a posting usually lasts 4 years max. They’re doing a thankless job in some very difficult situations. They serve the *country,* not the President.
My best man is a foreign service diplomat, stationed in Baghdad *right now.* He was working at the embassy in Nairobi when it was bombed by Al Qaeda in ‘98. He survived because he went out to pick up lunch; the woman he was also getting lunch for was killed. He’s served for 30 years, through presidencies of both parties, primarily those of GOP Presidents. (Reagan, Bush, and Bush.)
It’s only the guys at the very top that are political appointees. The rest are regular old “government bureaucrats.”
