President Obama warned Monday that the effects of Hurricane Irene will continue to be felt for some time.
Obama, speaking in the Rose Garden, noted that much of New England continues to battle flooding caused by the hurricane, which left destruction from North Carolina to Maine.
Much of the country is trying to deal with the impact and aftermath of the storm, the president said before introducing Alan Krueger, his nominee as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
It's going to take time to recover from a storm of this magnitude, Obama said.

Probably less recovery time than from you and your miss-ass.
“It’s going to take time to recover from HYPE of
this magnitude.” Tet68.
I’m guessing he’s teeing this up to use as an excuse for more bad economic news this fall.
e.g. We’re still trying to recover from Irene. LOL!
Yes! Perfect image!
Great graphic!
Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.
Good night, Irene and put a sock in it, Obama.
It’s going to take time to recover from a storm of this magnitude,
What Magnitude? A Cat 1 almost immediately down-graded (LOL Down-graded, get it.....) to a Tropical storm.
Little Storm - ALL HYPE. Kinda like al hat, and no cattle.....
Recovery from Zer0 to take longer.
See maggief’s great graphic! LOL.
What a JOKE! There was 100,000 more damage done from Katrina and yet is was supposed to be solved instantly. This is no more than a BAD thunderstorm with minor flooding and he’s acting like this is the disaster of the century. I guess Missouri doesn’t count, nor does the flooding last year. This guy is a miserable failure.
How do we know that pic wasn’t taken just after the Washington DC earthquake?
It did not take three years to recover economically from 9/11/2001.
Irene. Earthquake. Arab Spring. Japanese Tsunami.
It’s amazing how he can make claims as to all he’s done and then turn around and say we’re where we are due to all these things beyond his control (he was a major agitator of the arab spring however.)
It’s either you got something done or everything conspired to stop you.
Follow the money ...
This morning we’re continuing to deal with the impact and the aftermath of Hurricane Irene
We’re going to make sure folks have all the support they need as they begin to assess and repair the
damage left by the storm, and that’s going to continue in the days ahead, Obama said in the Rose Garden today.
The president said that the effects are still being felt across much of the country, including in New England and states like Vermont, where theres been significant flooding. Obama signed an emergency declaration for Vermont earlier this morning.
So our response continues, but I’m going to make sure that FEMA and other agencies are doing everything in their power to help people on the ground, the president said.
...depends on his shovel ready laser like focus.
Strange. This is the opposite of what I thought he’s say.
I figured he would take credit for weakening the storm.
One of her BEST!! LOL!!
Never let a downgraded weather watch go to waste.
I believe it was, but the chair fell over again from another “catastrophic” event.
That is one of the funniest political cartoons I have ever seen! A textbook case of “a picture is worth a thousand words, and a good caption can be a serious multiplier.”
