White House to nominate Krueger as top economist

President Barack Obama on Monday will announced he has chosen Princeton University labor economist Alan Krueger to become the top White House economist, a White House official said.

Krueger would succeed Austan Goolsbee as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.

The decision comes as Obama prepares to unveil a jobs package in a speech planned for shortly after the September 5 Labor Day holiday.

With U.S. unemployment at a stubbornly high 9.1 percent and amid fears the economy could slide back into recession, Obama is under pressure to show he is doing all he can to bolster growth.

Goolsbee, a long-time Obama adviser, left the administration earlier this month to return to his teaching job at the University of Chicago. The departure was a blow for the White House as Goolsbee had been a high-profile spokesman on the economy.

Krueger served in the Obama administration as a Treasury Department economist but left that job to return to Princeton last fall.

The nomination requires Senate confirmation but Krueger has an advantage because he has already served in the administration.

this occupant in the White House must strongly believe that if you keep doing the wrong thing over and over and you are going to get a different result.

Not necessarily, he may keep doing the wrong thing over
and over because that brings about the result he desires.

“labor economist” = academic leftist subservient to the propaganda of Big Labor

It may be possible to imagine someone who makes a career out of studying “labor” scientifically and objectively, but in practice someone drawn to and allowed to advance in that sector of the economics profession is going to be a shill for Big Labor.

According to Stewart Varney, this goof is a big advocate for the VAT tax.

Guess what’s coming.

Ah yes, another lefty economist. Just what we need.

Of course it is going to be a liberal. I am not surprised like some of you here on FR. I can’t imagine him hiring a conservative just like President Palin won’t be picking a liberal during her administration and the liberals will complain. It is the same complaining but just different characters.

I would not call Robert Lucas a communist.

It is legitimate to study Labor economics.

These people are so enamored of manipulating the economy that they have no understanding of how much damage they cause by treating the country as an experiment.

It’s bad enough that they think they are scientists competent to experiment on us, but what they actually are is small children torturing us by experimenting with processes they clearly don’t understand.

Every time the government announces it has some new grandiose meddle in mind to “fix” the economy, the economy shrinks back in fear. Rightly so.

So the new “economist” is going to fix the economy by helping big labor extort businesses. Sure, that’ll work.

I caught a news blurb yesterday that mentioned this guy Krueger played an important role in the “Cash for Clunkers” program. Yeah, since that worked out so well for this administration, I can see why they’d promote this guy! /s
