To the contrary, a good reason to get married to have someone to support them. ;-)
...”The boomers have destroyed (in my lifetime) the family, marriage, sex, objectivity, morality, piety, a sense of shame, privacy, community, personal responsibility and the economy. Is there anything left the eternal adolescents wont destroy?”...
Correct! Ironically, the boost to end all of those good things we had came initially from academia in the 60s. Of course, the Progressives were at work before that but the decline really took off in the 60s. Unforuntately, with wealth redistribution being the big push now, there is plenty they can still destroy. Anyone with children, especially boys, who pays attention to the education system has to be horrified. And, the bullying is unreal..No one wants to take responsibility for this government system which has reeled out of control on every front. It all just seems like a corrupt mess.
Great post, WestwardHo!
It’s quite the accomplishment when you think about it. Usually it takes centuries to accomplish what the Boomers have in just forty years, under forty when you think about it. I wonder if it will ever be rebuilt, or if this country will have it’s own “Dark Ages.”
Liberals have never thought they could increase women’s stature in the workplace by simply working to improve things for women.
It was a zero sum situation for them, so they did (and are doing) all in their power to tear down the “sexist, oppressive white oligarchy” in the American workforce.
Back then, academics were people who actually KNEW things, like multiple languages, a skill that required serious training in regards to studying (like the sciences and engineering) and then there were other things like if someone wanted to teach writing, they learned the exact method of constructing a perfect sentence or turn of phrase. School was for REAL subjects, not stuff like journalism (WHY does someone have to get a degree in that?) and in order to graduate you had to know stuff like multiple languages and write endlessly long essays and KNOW what you were talking about.
The problem is, many women didn’t realize just what it was they were getting into. In the workforce, you are there to produce and meet work expectations, it’s not a place for women to gossip, enjoy a ‘clean’ talking environment, or for women to go after a man, it’s a place to work. It’s also not there to fund your decision to have a child and pay for daycare. Business is business and few women really understand that mentality.
The ungodly kicked God out of our nation’s business, so why should we expect His blessings?
How about calling it “RIGHT-TO-WORK DAY”??
“Every generation prior to mine could look forward to a higher standard of living, rising property values and a social security check.”
That’s because each generation before yours understood the importance of self sacrifice for the betterment of the country and didn’t treat America like some trust fund just begging to be bankrupted by the hippies. All that wealth wasn’t there by magic, it was built up be the preceding generations that were working their fingers to the bone to bring the country through the Depression and WWII.
In other words, all the liberal counterfeit minority supporting programs have squeezed 20%-30% of the working male population out of employment.
If a man wants to work manual labor until he finds something better, regulations are enforced upon him to pay more fees than his income, while illegal aliens are able to work without impediment under the horizon.
Incompetent upper middle class female executives are not scrutinized in their performance or abilities and promoted over their male counterparts, not only inverting the corporate power structures, but now further reducing the corporate ethic.
Unlike competition within formerly male industries, the minorities who have gleaned more success with far less risk, are not satiated with the success previously claimed by a male hard work ethic. They have been corrupted by the liberal programs attempting to counterfeit grace with handicapping the competent majority and promoting the incompetent minority. Those who have benefited from those programs sincerely believe they are entitled to the success and continued success with discounted hardship.
This is why entitlement programs will not be reduced politically.
When a righteous man receives grace, he is grateful and humble for the grace, which he recognizes he doesn’t deserve.
The unrighteous arrogant man who receives grace and lives in a worldly fashion, confuses the grace as righteous justice.
The unrighteous man further degenerates into not being satiable with justice, but always demanding grace without humility, even to the point of attacking those who have afforded him grace.
There will come a point where either the unrighteous must change their thinking or the righteous and unrighteous are separated.
I disagree. The generation before mine destroyed practically all the institutions and cultural norms that made America great by rejecting virtually everything their parents- the greatest generation- taught them.
The issue of the plight of the American Working Man is summarized by the below observation..
You CANNOT..in 2012...run ANY political campaign that is ambiguous about your immigration position in the current job market.
Unemployed Americans are looking for assurances of their governments concern about THEIR plight...not that of businesses forced into looking for disposable labor because of onerous tax and regulatory policy.
Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation...and is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.
In short, it all comes down to Taxes and Regulation....the indexes of a narcissistic government.
I can remember when virtually every young male that I knew graduating from high school, immediately after graduating, either:
1. went into the military
2. went full-time to college
3. got a good paying job and started a family
(I don’t understand the young people today, so many of whom just seem to be bumming around, just wasting time.)
What’s the matter? You don’t like “free trade”?
Every generation prior to mine could look forward to a higher standard of living, rising property values and a social security check.
(..........sounds like somebody wants to bring back tariffs..)
I do not follow you.
You dont have to be an over-the-hill hippy type to live simply, mostly stay out of debt (low mortgage), enjoy your family, find your fun by working hard...
Im 63, and strongly influenced by my parents and the way they lived after going through the Great Depression. My husband and I think very carefully about accumulating things we need, and not accumulating a lot of stuff for the heck of it.
If you want to have a happy life believe God is who He says He is, fight for your family, resist the culture, love what is good, be good to your neighbor, love your country. Remember, life is short, pack it full of good deeds, hard work and happy memories.
There are a lot of us Boomers that live just like my family does. Were just not making a lot of noise. Its not a matter of taking us back to the wonderful, mystical 50s. Its being your best, and doing what is right in the midst of current events, and the times youve been given.
Thank you for such a beautifully put opinion. My parents were a young couple just starting out during the Great Depression and they taught us what is truly important just as yours did.
People who want to blame "boomers" now can look forward to being blamed by the next generation for putting another nail in the coffin of our economy. Allowing Christianity to be removed from every aspect of our lives is the cause of our current woes, IMO.
“Is this one of the reasons modern men are reluctant to get married?”
It would certainly seem to be related; in some cultures having a family you are unable to support is still seen as reckless & irresponsible. When the government openly disciminates against men in the workplace and family matters, it is only a matter of time before the families stop.
