For the first time, young Hispanics outnumber blacks on college campuses.
A study released today by the Pew Hispanic Center finds that enrollment of Hispanic students aged 18 to 24 rose by 24 percent in a single year, reaching 1.8 million in October 2010.
That’s 349,000 new Hispanic students. By contrast, black enrollment rose by 88,000 and Asian American enrollment rose by 43,000. White enrollment declined by 320,000. These crisscrossing numbers amplify the shift in the overall makeup of the college population.
There are now 1.8 million Hispanics enrolled in American colleges, 1.7 million blacks and 800,000 Asians. White enrollment has declined from about 8 million in 2009 to 7.7 million last fall.
Growth in Hispanic enrollment is fed by a rapid increase in the nation’s Hispanic population, which rose by 7 percent between 2009 and 2010. But a bigger portion is rising attainment — meaning that a growing share of Hispanics are enrolling in college. Hispanic attainment rose from 27 percent in 2009 to 32 percent in 2010, a five-point gain in a single year.
To put that number in context, Hispanics still trail all other racial and ethnic groups in enrollment rate. Young Asians are most likely to go to college, with an enrollment rate of 62 percent; whites are far behind at 43 percent; 38 percent of blacks and 32 percent of Hispanics enroll.
The white college population is declining because of a falling birth rate; the young white population has been falling since 2008.
Hispanics are nearly as likely to enroll in community colleges as four-year colleges, whereas whites and Asians favor four-year colleges at a ratio of about 3 to 1.

I have 2 buds in my circle, one Korean and 1 Filipino. Both right-wingers. One day a year ago, we were close to the L.A. Central library and our conversation steered to why Asians are always staying in school.
We head down to the bottom 4th floor where the geographical and archive books are and some Asians were reading books.
He pointed out to the cubicles and sofas and the homeless blacks were sleeping in every available table, and he turns to me then says ‘that’s why’.

Get a grip. All Hispanics are not illegals, and all illegals are not Hispanics (in fact, there are lots and lots of much more dangerous African, ME and Russian illegals, something that doesn’t seem to bother Freepers at all).
Hispanics are going to college because they are second generation, they speak English, and they want to get ahead, just like any other immigrant group (well, except for Muslims, who think that we should bow to them rather than them adapting to us).
At some point you run out of a tax paying population. Look south of the border and east to Europe. They're gonna hate it when they don't have whitey to kick around and bleed.

As for blacks, what’s the use of identifying with a minority these days? Forget “acting white”! Learn Spanish ;)
Little do blacks realize that, with the growth of Hispanics, they will soon be losing out to a growing Hispanic population that is far more likely to assimilate and probably will be better educated. The “Great Society” destroyed black Americans.
Rather than taking advantage of the opportunities that have been offered, far too many blacks simply took of the welfare benefits.
It's true that illegal IRA, Illegal islamists, and their like are a huge problem. But they'd be a lot more easily tracked and eliminated if our border and customs services, and economy, were not swamped by illegal mexicans.
Mexico as an entity hates the US and has a long entrenched rot in it's society and it's government. The US cannot solve someone else's problems by being PC about them...or by buying them off with freebies and express citizenship.
By the way, Spain ain't mexico and I've never met anyone from Spain who wanted to be called hispanic (I read your home page).
In the Detroit area, two suburban (predominately white) county community college systems (Oakland and Macomb) are among the best in the country. They are extremely affordable for in-county residents. Complete your first two years at a community college and transfer to a four year school to get your degree. It's a practical, inexpensive way to earn your degree.
Hey Maxine look-a-this! If you think the new de facto dream acts springing up around the country are going to help blacks then you be dreamin'. Can't have Black or White only student aid or scholarships but it seems like it's OK for illegal Hispanics. Now you'll see government money going private to meet their needs.
Upside will be educated illegals will need nanny's, gardeners and house keepers.
