With Katrina in Mind, Administration Says It’s Ready (The Obama Cheerleading Corp.)

Determined to avoid any comparisons with the federal government’s failed response to Hurricane Katrina, the Obama administration made a public display Saturday of the range of its efforts to make sure state and local officials had whatever help they needed from Washington.

President Obama, who returned to Washington a day early from his summer vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, visited the headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Agency shortly after noon. While there, he checked in on the National Response Coordination Center, a 24-hour command center operations based at FEMA, where dozens of federal employees from a range of agencies were assembled around the clock to help orchestrate the response to Hurricane Irene.

On wall-size television monitors, they keep track of the storm’s progress and are able to turn up or down the volume of the federal government’s response, by directing the various federal agency representatives who are there to pass on updates to their various bosses.

“You guys are doing a great job obviously,” Mr. Obama said during his brief visit. “This is obviously going to be touch and go.”

This is hardly comparable to Katrina.

Katrina had a lot of other problems...like getting people off their a***** and getting the governor to activate the guard.....THEIR FIRST DEFENSE!!!!

Naw...They wanted Washington handouts...the State was as crooked as they come.

Bet Obie has the EXACT same look on his face as when he was “supposedly” watching the Osama takedown.

“Determined to avoid any comparisons with the federal government’s failed response to Hurricane Katrina”

Behold the awful legacy of Katrina. Now, for no reason whatsoever besides it having been temporarily unpleasant to watch a U.S. city resemble a Third World heckhole (replete with desperate black people), the federal government is a first responder. Yet more food for Leviathan, who is hungry to gobble up all the responsibility he can. What a load of bunk.

LOL, the screen was blank. He is trying to be relevant when all he knows is useless.

C-SPAN today was re-running a speech by Michael Brown at the National Press Club touting his book Deadly Indifference. I didn't watch the speech and haven't seen the book but from what I gather (from online reviews) he takes potshots at Bush and tries to exonerate the governor of Louisiana.

So..if this storm ends up not doing much more than a regular Cat 1 hurricane or tropical storm..does he get credit for wasting billions of dollars that we just don’t have anymore thanks to him and the democrats?

Just curious....(eye roll)

Since when do you give aid BEFORE an event??

And it's not like the Feds didn't give aid for Katrina.

The problem was that the governor of the state FORGOT that the LOCAL FEMA should be tapped first. Just plain dumb!!

Bush gave a warning and declared a state of emergency way before Katrina hit.

So Bush gets the sixth largest hurricane in history that hits a city and state run by idiots and he is forever blamed.

But Obama cuts his precious Martha's Vineyard vacation short by a day to do photo ops surrounding an over-hyped tropical storm that is only a category one to justify the media frenzy and he is hailed as a hero.

First he single-handedly plugs the BP oil spill, then he kills binLaden with his bare hands, and now he is going to save the lives of 80 million people up and down the east coast. Seems to me that if he can claim that under his administration the waters would begin to recede I don't see why he doesn't just step into a phone booth, fly up and push the hurricane out to sea.

Meanwhile Blanco had orders from DNC Headquarters to hold back, never let a crisis go to waster.

The best thing Oblame-o can do is just get out of the way. This hurricane has already been downgraded to a sloppy Cat 1 that might bring in a whopping 5 inch rain. It’s not even packing enough wind peak in NC to blow around much Stephensnotimous’s 120 lb female reporter and it’s got two more days to blow out before it even gets NE.

Of course they need to be prepared for what comes, but this is not a storm they need to be running around screeching and wrenching their hair out about. It’s going to be NOTHING like Katrina, or Ike, or Rita.

Read Drudge’s headlines about the storm lately? We’re being played.

Even though I'm way far away, I've heard over the radio and news from Governors in the states in the path of Irene and the Mayor of NYC too, long before our Feckless Leader even left the golf course in Martha's Vineyard.

The only thing this clown is on top off is an emergency evac from Foggy Bottom to a campaign fundraiser somewhere where the power doesn't go out. Just another crisis to exploit.

“Since when do you give aid BEFORE an event??”

Since we were subjected to day upon day of sad people on roofs begging for water.

It has nothing to do with what’s best for disaster relief (err, prevention), nor what the traditional roles for different levels of government are. It’s just that people (or some people) always want the feds to do more and more and more. If it’s not disaster prevention, it’s education, energy, infrasctructure, the interwebs, how much your kids can weigh, the proper procedure for screwing and unscrewing lightbulbs, etc. Whatever there is, people will eventually want the feds to control.

“Bush gave a warning and declared a state of emergency way before Katrina hit.”

Like that matters/ He could have drowned standing athwart the tides yelling “Stop!” after personally evacuating the entire population of the city and still would’ve been posthumously blamed for the aftermath of mold.

How about comparisons to the federal governments failed gulf oil disaster? Some people outside of the media probably remember that. Lets try yo avoid that also.
