It’s called priorities and balancing the budget.

magna carta, do you live in Texas? I have a 5th or 6th generation Hispanic family / neighbor less than a block away, and they hate the illegals as much as anyone on this forum. The moved here from kalifornia to get away from the illegal problem. Both retired there, and now they are both working again because they are bored.

You may be interested in this article on Perry trying to return the stimulus money but the Democrats in Texas wanting to block that move.....DAMN!

“From the center of a Houston hardware store, Gov. Rick Perry ignited a debate about Texas job cuts, business taxes and President Barack Obama’s so-called economic stimulus program Thursday by rejecting the federal government’s offer of $555 million in aid to the unemployed.

The action now moves to the Legislature, which can bypass Perry and take the offer as long as it changes state laws and blocks Republican Perry’s potential veto. Democratic lawmakers said Thursday they will try.”

Bull, how do you have air superiority over countries that has missiles that can shoot down missiles.

First, the F22 is stealth. If you don't know where it is, your missile can't shoot it down. In any case ABM systems are designed to shoot down high altitude incoming missles, not cover every square mile of territory in low altitude tactical combat.

As far as the spending, the F22 is a drop in the federal budget bucket. You could easily build the F22 and cut 100 times that much from overall spending. By your logic, anyone in favor of building a border fence thinks Bush (and Obama) didn't spend enough.

Bull, Perry and his neck ring crown will be walking back this stupid statement within 24 hours, but he will now carry the more, more, spending just like in Texas. The not ready for prime time Perry has stepped in it large.

Yes I do live in TX. and work with Hispanic activists in fighting illegal immigration. Ms. Martinez here in TX. was the state leader in fighting the business interests that fought against enforcement bills and had funded the GOP so that Perry was allowed to garner money for his political career.Ms. Martinez was calling activists to appear before the State Affairs committee to push through E-Verify and sanctuary city bills. Mr. Hernandez formed Texans for ZERO Immigration here in Houston. The name of the umbrella group is called IRCOT. Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas.

I”m starting to like Perry a lot.

How about we demand reciprocal (two-way) trade with China, and bill China for their past predatory trade.

14 trillion ought to be a good start.

Additional bills to follow.

Well, we certainly can’t spend more money on defense simply to make sure China doesn’t beat us in the next air superiority battle now, can we. It’s much more important to cut spending than to defend our country.

There are many good things about Rick Perry...

In 2009, Gov. Rick Perry received the Defender of Jerusalem Award, given to public figures who have demonstrated support and commitment to the state of Israel and its capitol, Jerusalem. The governor accepted the award while on his trip to Israel, where he also met with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and business and academic leaders.

During that trip, Perry gave an interview to the Jerusalem Post in which he affirmed his support for Israel, “I’m a big believer that this country was given to the people of Israel a long time ago, by God, and that’s ordained.”

Unbelievable...can’t wait until a Republican is in the WH...can’t wait until we have new Republican leaders in the House and Senate...can’t wait until we also have a majority in the Senate.

A Republican was in the WH when the decision was made to procure less than 200 F22s. Robert Gates was Bush's Secy. of Defense before he was Obama's. It isn't nearly enough to just get Republicans in the White House and Congress, as the Republicans have proven to us repeatedly. What's needed is to get real fiscal and defense conservatives in office, and then do our job as citizens to make sure they stick by their stated principles and campaign promises, kicking their asses out of office when they don't.

Trans-Texas Corridor AKA NAFTA hwy

In January 2001, Perry proposed the Trans-Texas Corridor, a $145+ billion-dollar project that would build multi-lane highways, rail lines and data lines from Oklahoma to Mexico, and from east to west in southern Texas.

Instead of paying for the project with taxes, Perry proposed that it be partially financed, partially built and wholly operated by private contractors who, in exchange for a multi-billion dollar investment, would receive all toll proceeds, notably Cintra, a Spanish-owned company.

One of the more controversial aspects of the project was extensive use of eminent domain to acquire property. Opponents portrayed the proposal as a "land grab", and criticized Perry for opposing the public release of the actual terms of the 50-year deal with Cintra to the public for fear they would chill the possibility of the company's investment.

Perry's former liaison to the legislature, former State Senator Dan Shelly, returned to his consulting/lobbying work with Cintra after securing the TTC deal while on the state payroll.

All of Perry's gubernatorial opponents opposed the corridor project, as did the 2006 state party platforms of both the Democratic and Republicans parties.

Texas is 38% hispanic and this place was once Mexico

In 1960 it was less than 15% "hispanic", whatever that is (they're um, Mexicans - it's a real country and people, just ask them).

As far as it being Mexico, if you think that's an excuse for invasion and takeover, we have a word for that. Starts with a T, and it ain't Tejas.
