AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for nearly $350 million to cover the costs incurred detaining illegal immigrants in state prisons and county jails. In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry criticized the federal government hasn't been doing enough to secure the border with Mexico, thereby allowing illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and use taxpayer-funded resources, including prisons and jails. It's a claim the Republican governor has made many times before.
The letter was dated Aug. 10, three days before Perry formally announced he is running for president.

Dr. Jack Wheeler: if you want perfection, die and go to heaven, as that's the only place you'll find it. If you want a Messiah, pray for the Second Coming, but don't demand it of a Republican presidential candidate. If you want miracles, pray that the Almighty will perform them, but don't expect them to be performed by a human being, POTUS or no.

Why does everyone assume Sarah Palin is some 100% conservative hero? She isnt. Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love her and think 99.99% of the criticism of her is unfair and underhanded. But if you look at her record, she was a moderate conservative, not a conservative firebrand. I know some people hate to hear it but the politician she is probably closest to in terms of overall conservativeness is Perry. That is why they get along so well. She was the darling of the dems until McRino picked her. She walks across the aisle and worked with the dems much like W. You can look at Perry’s record and you’ll not find his working with the dems like Sarah and W.

So. . .since you have all the answers to our problems with BHO, who indeed do we back in 2012? A write-in candidate? Do you really think that will work? Please let us ill-informed posters know what to do and whom to back. Thanks.

This is a Perry thread. Grow up and learn how to debate.
To: mnehring
He isnt a Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter on border issues, but he isnt a Bush either.
Sorry, but until he does something at the state level that does not involve the Feds who he knows automatically will shoot him down, such as:
1. Implement E-Verify at the state level to prohibit employment in Texas:
2. Implement a similiar bill as AZ1070
3. Get rid of the Pro-Sanctuary Policing policies at the State Level for the DPS
4. Come out against Comprehensive Immigration Reform (which he as already previous come out in favor of)
Until he actually does something that is effective, all he is spouting is words, and couple that with his Pro-Open-Borders speeches and initiatives, and you have someone as equally bad as Bush was.

Who's your favorite nominee?
Governor Sarah Palin.
If she does not get in, it will be Cain or Bachmann since they are the only other true-blue conservatives in the race.
Perry doesn't qualify, as his record has shown.

Then by your standard, Perry does not even qualify as a conservative.

No he is a moderate conservative as Sarah Palin is...

It’s actually brilliant.
It’s calling Obama’s hand that he played against the Arizona governor, whasername.
Obama says, “It’s the Fed’s job, states, get the hell out of the way.”
Perry says, “OK, loud an clear....you’ve just admitted you are responsible party to receive the expense tab.”

Grow up and learn how to comprehend.
The poster I directed that to was implying that JR supported RINO Rick. I was responding to that with a more recent post wherein JR chastised a RINO Rick supporter and called her a RINO. It's not my fault that escaped your limited intellect.

You back the most credible CONSERVATIVE candidate in the primaries, you have two credible conservative candidates already declared, Bachmann and Cain, you have a third, the 800 pound gorilla of conservative candidates, who has not declared, Governor Sarah Palin.
I do believe she will declare shortly. She is the one I will be supporting, however, if she decides not to run, I'll be supporting Bachmann or Cain.
Perry, with his checkered past where conservatism is concerned is not even on my short list for the primaries, If, God forbid, he is the nominee, I'll have to seriously weigh everything before I pull the lever for him because he will be a repeat of GWB, his current panding comments not withstanding.
To: South40; Jim Robinson
Jim - South40 is trying to make out that you see Perry as a RINO. Seems he has a problem with Perry and wants you to be on his side with that problem. Care to weigh in?

Jim - South40 is trying to make out that you see Perry as a RINOThat is a lie. I merely pointed to a post of his wherein Jim called one of the loudest Perry supporters a RINO.
Learn how to read.

No he is a moderate conservative as Sarah Palin is...
No, he is not.
1. Sarah is for a border fence, Rick Perry is not.
2. Rick signed a Pro-Homosexual Hate Crimes bill, Sarah would never have done that.
3. Sarah actually has effectively cut the size of a state budget, Rick has grown his.
4. Sarah is for an effective State-Level Illegal Immigration Enforcement(AZ1070), Rick isn't.
5. Rick is against E-Verify, Sarah is not.
6. Rick, with Guardisil is more of a Nanny-State moderate republican, Sarah would have never signed such nonsense.
To: SoConPubbie
Perry doesn't qualify, as his record has shown. So if he's the nominee, you'll stay home and not vote?
Sure, that'll work out well for conservative America.

Good, Jan Brewer should send them a bill too. As well as all the other states who have them sitting in their jails and prisons.

Nope, Reagan wouldn’t stand a chance here. I got kick out of one fool with a Reagan quote in his tagline attacking Perry’s immigration policies on another thread. I didn’t want to rock his world by pointing out Reagan’s ill conceived amnesty for 3 million illegals.
