NO PATAKI: Former New York governor George Pataki won't run for president and has opted out of a scheduled event in Des Moines Saturday
Former New York governor George Pataki has cancelled plans to attend a Polk County Republicans event in Des Moines Saturday, as he announces he won't seek the office of president.
Pataki had been scheduled to speak at the Polk County Republicans summer picnic at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Many expected Pataki to reveal he would run for president in 2012 at the picnic, but now sources close to him say he has decided against declaring as a candidate.
In a statement, Pataki explained his decision, "Today, my family and I have reached the very difficult decision not to seek the office of President of the United States... While I have chosen not to run, I remain committed to the cause and will support a candidate who offers the vision, the ideas and the leadership to bring an end to America's debt crisis."
Three other GOP presidential candidates are attending the picnic. Thaddeus McCotter, Ron Paul and Rick Perry are all scheduled to take part.
The picnic begins at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and admission is $25.
I’m not running for President, neither.
Pataki? President?
Of what?
Thank God. Huntsman’s niche as biggest RINO to ever run for President is safe.
Why do I have this mental picture of Pataki’s wife whacking him over the head with an iron skillet?
Give credit to Irene, for sucking all of the air out of his weekend plans.
Fred Karger?
>>>The disappointment is palpable.
My indifference is nearly infinite. :)
Another FReeper joked about him not being on my list so I added him. Gay rights lobbyist from San Fran who runs every four years. Yes, as a Republican.
Good riddance to Rino Pataki! He was a lousy governor and got his marching orders from Al D’Amato.
It's not too "difficult" a decision when your internal polling feedback showed that even people without phones wouldn't vote for you.
