If the current tracking prediction is accurate, the eye of the storm will pass right over us, if it has an eye by the time it gets up here.
Well, things are calm right now. Some moderate rain, is all. But very humid. Thankfully, it’s cool up here in the hills. We have the french doors open onto the deck.
The kids (we have quite a few) are watching a movie in the other room. I’m out here near the deck listening for critters. No mammal sounds and no owls. No coyotes baying. Not even frogs. Unusually quiet for a night in the forest. God tells his creatures to take cover.
I can hear the brook down in the valley, about 900’ to our east. I imagine we’ll hear it roaring if we get as much rain as they say we will.
We’re on the side of a small mountain, about half way up, so we’re somewhat high and dry. Our biggest threat is falling trees taking out power and blocking the road, and, of course, washouts. We’ve certainly had our share of those, over the years.
Still have to get the plow ready for winter. Truck’s in rough shape, too, so that will need some work.
