Reporting in from Essex County, NJ — about 12 miles from NYC.

Rain bands all day, but it must be the calm before the storm as except for a breeze every now and then, it is quite still. My wall of bamboo sometimes just lies there with not a frond moving. Talking about trees, we have a massive white oak overhanging the house. It is a beloved tree and if we ever move, it is going with us. But I’ve been sending positive vibes to it hoping it will stay strong when the winds pick up.

One thing I learned, here on FR, was to put your patio/deck furniture in the pool! We did and it is a perfect way to keep it from blowing all over. The glass top table is now upside down on a mattress cover, so it will be OK, but everything else is submerged! I verified it all on a google search ti. What a great idea!!

This is a “Tree Town USA”, and there is a patch of woods at the back of the yard. However this town has all its power lines in the back yards, not out front. I expect power outages from all the fallen trees, and it will take some work to restore ours. Thank goodness for a generator that will include recharging my B’Berry, so I can keep on-line! It isn’t as tho I’m addicted to FR, of course. I mean I can stop it anytime I want. It’s not a problem. Honest! LOLOL!

Hi there Nutmeg and NautiNurse! Fun Freeping with you both those many times! And NN — thanks for this thread and your wonderful knowledge. Really appreciate it. DH and I took weather forecasting courses years ago, when we sailed. Before computer models, and when we used our sling psychrometer to measure dewpoint and humidity. Fun times!

Stay safe all!

That's what I thought. And then FR went down for 16 hours.

One more thing about putting your pool furniture in the pool--it will be sparkling clean when it comes out!

Very glad you checked in with us as you await the storm. We look forward to local updates when you have a chance.
