Karl Rove To Sarah Palin: Get A "Thicker Skin"
Real Clear Politics ^

Posted on 08/25/2011 9:01:23 AM PDT by indianrightwinger

Karl Rove responds to controversy over his speculation if Fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin will indeed enter the GOP field. Rove said chances are she will jump in, but was not definitive in his observation.

"I'm mystified," Rove said about reaction to his speculation. "Look, she is all upset about this saying how I am trying to sabatouge her in some way. How do I speculate on her future."

"Look, if she doesn't want to be speculated about a potential presidential candidate there is an easy way to end the speculation. Simply say 'I'm not running.' Instead, every time she pops up in the public eye like she did on CNN, at the Iowa State fair a short number of days ago. she said 'I haven't made a decision.'"

"I'm just speculating that more likely than not she is going to be a candidate."

"Now I said 'I wouldn't bet a lot of money on it' because it is such a close thing and I am not privy to her thought-making process. But it is sign of enormous thin-skin that if we speculate about her, she gets upset. And I suspect if we didn't speculate about her, she would be upset and getting ways to get us to speculate about her."

It wasn't and isn't a bad law. It makes politicians answerable to the people. It was misused by the left. Every lawsuit was filed by a Dem because Palin did things like wear a coat with a logo and held up a dead fish in a pic. That doesn't make the law bad. It makes Democrats dishonest harassers.

It is a bad law if it can be abused in such a way that it drives a politician to bankruptcy. She should have stayed and fixed it so no other office holder had to go through what she did.

Straight out of the mouth of Democrats. And you bought it.

No, I came to that conclusion myself after watching her reality tv show.

Another meme from the MSM. The deadline to declare is November. The Press pushes and again, you buy it.

Good luck with that.

The press would be happy if she ran as that would ensure that their messiah would win the reelection. I myself do not want to be stuck with 4 more years of the marxist dictator wannabe destroying our country. We won't be the same country if he gets 4 more years to do what he damn well wants Constitution be damned.

Yep, and I spent a good deal of time on FB yesterday pointing that out to some Perrybots, who were far too ready to throw Sarah under the bus for honoring her oath but unwilling to respond, at all, to the plain factual charge that Perry has broken a major campaign promise to get in this race. He’s the business as usual politician the Tea Party is designed to get rid of. I guess it shows what a big role fear is playing in this election cycle.

What the hell are you talking about. Governor’s call special elections all the time to fix problems. It is part of the job description.

She may have done the right thing for herself but it cost her politically. She doesn’t automatically get a free pass to run for POTUS without people being able to discuss this aspect of her history in office. Remember she quit midway through her Oil and Gas commission too. New election, new vetting.

She should have stayed and fixed it so no other office holder had to go through what she did.

Fix a law being used against her? Instead of 15 frivolous ethics complaints she would have had 100 valid ones! Quit trying to feed me lefty crap. Sean Parnell fixed the law after she left. The left wasn't afraid of him and Obama operatives weren't working to bring him down. He isn't a threat to them.

I came to that conclusion myself after watching her reality tv show.

You cannot believe how hard I'm laughing.

The press would be happy if she ran as that would ensure that their messiah would win the reelection.

They've got you hook, line and sinker! If she'd fail why are they so focused on her? Do you ever think and reason things out? They want you to be afraid too. And you are.

Alinsky's Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. It also infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.

The implication that Palin coudln’t handle the political heat comes from her resigning when the political temperature became intolerably high.

And “Palin detractors have to be devious and misrepresent the truth in their attempt to get people not to support Palin?” You’re deluded, or maybe even irrational. How often do you ever talk politics with someone who isn’t a rural committed conservative Republican? GB put it quite well in his post 188, I believe:

“Sarah is to the GOP what Nancy Pelousy is to the Democrats. She is wildly popular among the Party faithful, but not so among independents, and certainly a demonizing and polarizing figure among the other party.”

“Since independent voters are more moderate than rank and file GOP primary voters, it stands to reason that Romney might benefit with a large number of independents voting in the GOP primaries”

I understand your point, and it is well-taken. And I’m sure Romney was counting on it. But, events are just not working out like the party manipulators anticipated at all, mainly because Palin is just not playing along. Your posts themselves assum she is in, even though she has not announced formally. She resigned as Governor to start her campaign, without permission from Rove. She calls the party bosses the “bluebloods” and “high muckety-mucks”. She won’t give Karl a job. And when they spread lies. she calls them on it. And she may not announe until November, when Reagan did. Or not.

But, one thing it is time to recognize is this. We shouldn’t waste our time discussing Romney. Events have already made Romney’s campaign toast.

Governor’s call special elections all the time to fix problems.

This wasn't about calling an election. This was legislative. And Alaska is like no other state in the union. The governor there is the CEO. They run things.

Look, if you are going to discuss this, do some research. And quit parroting the press.

You have a nice day.

she ended up putting corrupt politicians from her own party in JAIL.

Who did she put in jail? For what crime?

She didn’t stay and fix the bad law she signed. She was the governor and had the power to call a special session. She didn’t do that so that bad law she signed is still there to be utilized politically for those who follow her. A good leader would have fixed the problem not run and whine when the heat was too rough.

It's hard to do that when the very Rats who are trying to destroy you control the legislature that needs to pass the legal fix.

BTW...

The point is she signed this dud into law, and it was then turned around on her as a battering ram. That is a fair point to make in discussing whether or not she’s fit for higher office.

She had the right to quit, but the public has the right to discuss this issue if she does run.

Ha. As a lawyer I can tell you honestly there's never been a law written that cannot be abused. Shucks, even God got guff from the Pharisees. Give me a break.

Alaksan law, if I remember what I've read correctly, supported her enemies who wanted to prevent her from accepting help of defense funds set up by her supporters.

Correct. They even had her first legal defense fund declared as an ethics violation, which left her with no way to combat the increasing harassment.

If I am forced to guess, my guess is SP will not get in. A little early to write Romney off at this point. He is very disciplined and focused not to mention well financed. The GOP usually goes with the runner up in the last election. Even RR had to lose first before he could win. Same with McCain and Bush Senior. It’s the GOP’s way of vetting candidates. Perry’s problem is he hasn’t been fully vetted yet. There may be things out there we don’t know about him. Romney has already been vetted.

Trying to have a reasoned debate with a member of the Cult of Palin is akin to trying to debate a liberal.

For every Palinbot bashing you in this thread, there are many more lurking or commenting that feel that Sarah Palin is damaged goods in terms of a viable presidential candidate, and some of the damage is self-inflicted. My opinion has nothing to do with Sarah as a leader, or a wife, or a mother, or an American, and I think she is exemplary in all of these regards, but rather has to do with beating Barack Obama with a candidate who is to the right of John McLame and understands that Obama is not only incompetent, but is a danger to this great country.

But, the Palinbots try and smear any other GOP contender, and to some degree, Palin’s indecision on her own potential candidacy is helping to rip apart the GOP base instead of having the focus be Obama.

Got him two terms in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, Palin is 4th at best in the GOP field. She’s in Ron Paul territory; an afterthought at this point.

I’ve read that law. Well, some parts read and some parts skimmed. The defect isn’t obvious, even to a trained, focused attorney. Like software, some bugs just don’t show up till you run the code in real life (I also write software). She doesn’t work with the attorney who wrote that law anymore, to the best of my knowledge. Be that as it may, it is a good law, and has the capacity to prevent the kind of corruption that was paralyzing AK before her reform effort. In succeeding with getting that reform passed, she has nothing to be ashamed of, other than relying on a slightly less than perfect attorney, and many fine leaders must endure that same risk, unfortunately.

Amen! This is beginning to be a big tease.

DEFEATING BHO MUST BE OF PARAMOUNT CONCERN.

Everything else is a minor detail.

This was a dud. It was easily used to defeat her. She signed it and has to deal with that fact. It didn’t take the DNC operatives long to figure it out either.

Problem @ is interesting. Her enemies employed a Clyde/Piven strategy of overwhelming the legal system with worthless suits each of which had to be responded to as if they were legitimate. That is the court’s issue, not her legislation. The law she supported required government employees to cover their own legal costs pending winning the suit. In a normal environment one or at most two suits could be expected to be filed against a government official. The litigants in this case filed endless suits in rapid fife every one of which required her attention. She was gamed by unscrupulous political enemies. Could this happen on a federal level? No. Should the law have been changed or amended? no.
