Some New York politicians and religious leaders are criticizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg for not offering clergy members a role in the high-profile ceremonies marking 10 years since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"This is America, and to have a memorial service where there's no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me," said Rudy Washington, a former deputy mayor under Rudolph Giuliani. "I feel like America has lost its way."
A spokewoman from Bloomberg's office told The Journal that the focus, as in past years, will be on the family members of the fallen. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik told the paper he understood the mayor's decision, saying, "I don't know how to make it possible for everyone to have a place at the table."

Thank you for reminding us all of that - so very, very wrong on so many levels. Did the Greek Orthodox Church sue the port authority? If not, they should.
Exactly!
Great. Now the thread has to degenerate into disgusting anti-semitism.
Why can’t this stuff get pulled? I’m getting pretty tired of this stuff on FR.
they are being timid trying the diplomatic solution. It is like negotiating with obama, pointless.
What a reprehensible comment.
Bloomberg is an embarrassment and not worthy of the office by his behaviour - imho, similar to Obama.
It's easy. You look at what is known about the list of the innocent dead, and work out what religions were represented there. You then invite representatives of those religions to be present making it clear that the situation will be ecumenical. You also say that if any other religious groups would like to send people to participate in an ecumenical memorial, they will be made welcome as well - to ensure you didn't miss anyone.
But he's really just a little, little man.
How about a “flash mob” singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic” ??
Agreed. The comment wishing that every man, woman and child in New York would die has been pulled. Maybe the anti-Semitic comment will be pulled too. What an awful turn this thread has taken.
The “diplomats” I’ve met that work for the State Department are brain dead. Seriously.
I know it’s terrible to say, but I actually think he’s worse than Obama. But that is because I live here and my husband’s job and life have been impacted by Bloomberg’s incredibly high-handed bad behavior.
These days we seem to be having “flash mob” crazies at FR. Very depressing.
Actually, imho, it’s not awful. People are posting more on this little thread than many others, so I appreciate the fact that it is making people think and feel. We need to take our country back.
See my post 34. I think discussion and dissent are healthy. It gets people’s attention and that is a positive thing. Apathy is the enemy.
If it was me, I wouldn’t attend....Bush Giuliani all of them should bow out.
Mayor Michael Loonberg ,”if you have a stupid idea ,I’m for it”
I think the problem is he would be pressured to accept a muslim chaplain there (on the grounds that muslims also died in the towers).
And to avoid that, he simply chose to punt—no chaplains (despite the fact that the chaplain of the NYFD died
when the towers fell).
Not an example of good leadership, IMHO.
If the words “Godless Jew” read like an intelligent discussion to you, I actually pity you. I’ve hit the abuse button on it and hope it gets pulled. It probably won’t but at least I tried.
Bloomberg just hates Christians and religious Jews. Period. He did not have to have a Muslim there. I call that BS. It’s a disgrace. I hope people rise up and recite the Lord’s Prayer en masse during the ceremony.
