Rick Perry: Macho, macho man
Baltimore Sun ^ | August 23, 2011 | Luke Broadwater

....Tough-guy politicians may not actually make the best leaders, but they've been shown to be popular with voters and able to win major elections. Currently, no other leading candidate (not Mitt Romey, Ron Paul or Michele Bachmann) in the Republican field comes across as more macho than Perry.

Evidence of Perry's machismo is surging on the internets. The Twitter feed @RickPerryFacts is a constant stream ofChuck Norris-esque statements about Perry. They're funny, but I also can't help but think they don't speak to a yearning of some part of the human psyche: A basic desire for a strong, tough-guy leader.

Now, this Twitter feed has been active for quite some time, but with Perry's emergence as a top presidential contender, they've stepped it up a notch.

Here are 10 recent tweets from @RickPerryFacts about govenor's machismo:

• Each night before they go to sleep, Barack Obama makes Michelle check under the bed for Rick Perry.

• Popeye opens a can of Rick Perry before a fight.

• Atheists believe in rick perry

• Obama lists him as his emergency contact.

• Rick Perry once played in Texas without having a fiddle in his band.

• Remember how bad Y2K was supposed to be? Remember how nothing bad happened at midnight? Yeah, thank Rick Perry for that one.

• Rick Perry checked up on Annie, and yes, she is okay.

• Rick Perry once won the Indianapolis 500 in a rickshaw pulled by a small gerbil.

• If Rick Perry had starred in the movie "300", the film would have been called "1".

• As President, Rick Perry will protect the Secret Service.

I may be wrong on my Texas hostory, but I think “Come and Take it” was the original slogan referring to the cannons the Mex government had given the settlers for use against Indians some tome before the Alamo, which more or less started the revolution.

Texan seems to have the most complete recall of the facts around “Come and Take It”. I know I have long associated the “Come and Take It” flag (the cannon and the star) with the Alamo, but I may be mistaken.

Pretty sure about the message of defiance, though. And I am pretty sure that Perry is sending it to Obama very deliberately.

Definately a message of defiance.

Even though Perry is not perfect, I think he the Texan type to offer to introduce a gimletass like nobama to Tony Llama.

I don’t know if it was used at the Alamo. I’m not from TX, although I am married to someone who is.

I do know that it is the translation of “Molon labe” (come and take them) which was the response King Leonidas I gave to the Persian army’s demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae.

The slogan was used about 6 months before the Alamo, at Gonzales, Texas. The Mexican army was told to recover a small cannon, and the local Texans were not too keen on the idea.

That doesn’t help - I recognize Barry-O, but I don’t know who the other woman is.

Texas spends a $100 million a year of our State’s tax money on border control. That’s besides being a donor State - we send more money to DC than we get back.

Perry supported the overturn of sanctuary cities, helped publicize the Houston and El Paso local gov’t’s unofficial sanctuary city status (through their police and Sheriff’s dept’s).

Our independent House and Senate members refused to pass our e-verify and sanctuary bills, however, in spite of pressure. My opinion is they decided that they gave enough on the voter ID.

He’s also been protesting the detention centers - we have 11 in Texas, where convicted criminal illegal aliens are brought from all over the US and detained until released or deported - and the transfer processing centers in Texas - the Feds bring people from Tucson to Precidio to send them back across the border.

We do have a requirement for state grant recipients to verify their employers.

I appreciate that and it sound good. I am curious, would Perry support or has he supported the e verify laws? I am liking him more now.

Governor Perry tends to focus on controlling the border, and has pointed out that e-verify is not useful for keeping criminals out of the State or protecting us from people who cross our State going other places.

From Perry’s own words:

Everyone will think that Obama is a flamin’ gay by the end of the Perry vs Obama campaign.
Right now, Obama is at the girlie boy stage. Pass the popcorn.

Thank you...but it is a tool to use to reduce greatly the magnet of work. I don’t know how that can be denied.
