Texas Gov. Rick Perry has grabbed frontrunner status in South Carolina, ending several months of what had been a muddled race in this key Republican presidential primary state.
Perry launched his campaign just over a week ago in Charleston, electrifying South Carolina conservatives who have been hungering for a candidate with Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmanns fire who they also deem electable and experienced. And while Republicans in the Palmetto State caution that Perry has months of vetting ahead of him and that the contest is still up for grabs, there is a general consensus that the late-entering Texas governor has the inside track.

Oops, I mean after a week and a half...
Ping!
Course, if she does jump in, all bets are off.
I guess voters do not check the issues that go with a candidate?
If you'd rather not be pinged please send me a FReepmail.
He may win by talk. But we will all lose when he governs like the rhino he is. No joy in that.

In that case, Palin splits the Perry and the Palin votes and Romney wins. I keep saying there are more votes out there to consider than our own that will be coming into the Republican primary. Indies and disenchanted dems will be jumping in to vote Romney. These are not going to be Palin voters, or else they would already be Republicans. We have to get behind one candidate to take on Romney and Obama successfully. Is there anyone left out there who thinks that person is Sarah Palin? My bet is that even SP knows she can’t make it through a general election and that’s why she isn’t running.
And...if Obama’s slide continues...the next President.
Even if he did nothing else but Replace Ruth Ginsburg with a conservative on the court as good as the two Bush placed on the court, he’d make me a happy man.
What a dumb article!
This isn’t a report of a poll result. This is a few GOP operatives in SC saying Perry is in front.
What a useless piece of garbage.
Not surprised Bush2 supporters fell for it though.
Romney, Perry. Same difference. Both RINOS.
And here come the Palinistas to p!ss all over a Perry thread. Just like clockwork. But let anyone post anything less than adoring about Sarah on a Palin thread, and they encircle and attack!
Look, we know you and CheetahCat and Bronze Titan, SoConPubbie, South40, et al, all love Sarah and want to see her elected. We also know you don’t like Perry, think he is a pro-illegal immigration, muslim loving, NAU-promoting, Gardasil-mandating RINO. Let’s just accept those accusations as made, and you can go off to your own little corner and congratulate each other for your cleveness, okay?
That’s a pretty solid prediction.
IF Perry wins in Iowa (looks possible now) and in NH (looks SLIGHTLY possible now), then it will be over before it starts good.
He is definitely going to win in SC, and, I suspect, will cruise to the nomination after that. But a week ago, I thought that he would not win either Iowa or NH. Not so sure about that now!
Net effect, though, Perry will still be the nominee most likely. (Again, though, as you note, if Palin runs, things might get scrambled).
on the court as good as the two Bush placed on the court”
Bush had a lot of fault.
But his court picks was not one of them!!!!
Sorry but I am living here in Texas and have no earthly idea why you think Perry is what we need. He is the “conservative” the establishment wants.
We have to get behind one candidate to take on Romney and Obama successfully.

Yes we do. Good to see you’ve seen the light and are ready to get behind Palin now!
We all know indies and moderates, let alone Tea Party Patriots, are not going to vote for bush2!
I am really just trying to find out what Perry had DONE. Not talked about that makes you think he is what we need in the country that’s falling apart fast. He talks a mean game but when TSHF...he will “compromise” just like McCain and his little buddy. Mark my words.
