Pentagon evacuated after possible earthquake in Washington area. Reuters reporting 5.8 magnitude. WTOP will have more information as it becomes available.

It was northwest of Richmond, VA; no need to evacuate anywhere in the DC area.
Brick houses are VERY dangerous in an earthquake.

I’m in Raleigh, NC......and we felt it pretty good here. So did our next door neighbor (we came running outside at the same time); rattled dishes, pots and pans.
Now you know how it was for me 30 years in So.Cal : )
What a course of events if -26Bama has to leave the Vineyard early due to Hurricane Irene, but he can’t go back to earthquake-rocked DC. Might be forced to wait out the storms, and filling in any White House foundational cracks somewhere else... Kenya works.

It went through Allentown PA about 10 minutes ago. Evacuated all the buildings down town. My wife says there is lots of panic.
My building swayed in midtown manhattan.

Update at 2p.m. ET: Reuters reports a 6.2 magnitude earthquake centered near Mineral, Va., rocked the mid-Atlantic states and was felt as far north at Manhattan and as far south as North Carolina.
Update at 1:57 p.m. ET:The Associated Press reports that the Pentagon is being evacuated.
An apparent earthquake rocks Washington, D.C. area.
Fox news reports that several public buildings, including the Capitol, have been evacuated.

It must have been a big one, we felt it wear I work, in Charleston, WV over three hundred miles away! It was a sizable jolt, the building was shaking pretty good.

It was felt in Macon, GA. I know because I thought that I was going bat-#$%^ crazy and then I heard the radio news announcement. I lived in LA for a while though.
Very, very slight though.
