I spoke to a group of politically active, so-called conservatives last week at a hotel here in my New Mexico hometown. One of the topics that kept coming up was whether I despised Texas Gov. Rick Perry as much as I despised most other candidates that the Republican/Democrat regime is trying to force me to pick from in the next election.
Lets think through some deep thoughts and do fact-checking on Perry and the entire Left/Right paradigm as most people seem to see it right now:
You can spend about five minutes on the governors official website confirming that Rick Perry is yet another big-government, corporate-welfare lover from the Republican side of the Republican/Democrat regime, whose policies are fundamentally no different from the Clinton/Bush/Obama policies of years past.
Apparently, for example, the government doesnt create jobs except when its welfare for Office Depot Inc. (ODP):
Gov. Perry: Fiscal Responsibility is Essential for Prosperity and Job Creation: Perry noted that government doesnt create jobs; it creates the environment

Generally agree, yet this thread was posted by someone whose theme was, Rick Perry is for Big Government, completely missing the fact that Rick Perry is for the states over the Feds.
Then along comes another who states that guardasil was the proof he needed that Perry likes Big Government, followed by another who agreed in the most inaccurate and incendiary of terms.
The whole thread stinks.
Sorry to have bothered you. Not just saying that, but sincerely mean it.
Ping to post #21 where reference is made to your posts (and where the spelling is corrected unlike in #20).
Very informative article. Thanks for posting.
I liked what you wrote. And thank you for pinging me.
You did good.
I’m going to post something if it hasn’t been already and will ping you.
Gardasil is a drug developed by Merck & Co.. It is supposed to prevent cervical cancer caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in June of 2006 and subsequently recommended vaccination in females aged 11 and 12, before they become sexual active. Since it is not effective against an existing infection, it must be given before a sexually-transmitted HPV infection occurs.
Governor Perry issued an Executive Order (EO) (RP#65, February, 2007) which mandated that all Texas girls be vaccinated prior to their admission to the sixth grade. Parents were allowed to opt out of the mandate by filling out an affidavit.
Now, I'm no fan of Cancer either. But, I would never even consider using my authority to coerce others to get a vaccine, or even a Breast Exam. Maybe you would? My thoughts are simple - we each live our lives making individual decisions, as best as we can. Who am I to remove a personal decision from you? Mr. Perry had no problem mandating that every child be injected, unless a parent would sign an afadavit - but the default position was manditory injections. If he had done the same thing, but made this voluntary - I would have no problem with this whatsoever.
But, he didn't. That tells me a lot about the nature of this man.
It was wrongheaded of him.
He left out a very important step in the thought process, which was how would the people of Texas perceive this, the way I’m trying to set it up here? Would they perceive it the same way as they do routine vaccinations for public school? OR would they resent and reject it for some very obvious reasons I haven’t considered?
Would they then contact their state reps and demand it be stopped? If so, why am I doing this, then?
I have never for a single second defended Perry’s thought process, or actually the lack thereof. I was agin the plan from the gitgo.
I could see why he thought it was a good idea, though, if you narrowed your thoughts down to how most effectively to prevent a cancer epidemic in a few years to a whole bunch of young Texas girls.
That it has been used ever since to paint him as a political monster, though, is to me just stupid.
He didn’t think it all the way though. That was my first thought when I heard about it then and it is my thought today.
And when the other branch of government, the people’s representatives weighed in, as they should, it was over.
Did he resist? Mightily. He didn’t want to think of all those girls growing up only to get cancer, that to his way of thinking could have so easily been prevented.
He fought it.
But at the end of the day, he understood.
He was told flat out that the people did not want it done that way and why they objected.
This was not some statement he made in a surge of emotion, an impulsive, knee-jerk; this was an edict he published - and instead of thinking “Why do the people resent this?”; he tried to force it down their throats.
If not for the Texas Legislature - this WOULD have been forced down the citizen’s throats. And that is my point.
Socrates wrote “Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absoltely”. Perry had a taste of power; and what I saw frankly frightens me. Here is a man, who will cease power and force his (belevolent) will upon another. What will he do when given the powers of the POTUS?
A ‘reasonable’ man would have retracted the Executive Order long before the Legislature reached a super-majority vote to reject it. A ‘reasonable’ man would have made this vaccine available as an option; and been lauded a ‘hero’.
The buzzing bees of anti-Perry activists with their "Gardasil-TTC-Border" mantra will only continue to highlight and enhance a Gov. Rick Perry nomination as truth of his work here in Texas gains national exposure. Rick Perry as governor, used all resources at his disposal in an attempt to make a cancer vaccine available to Texas children. The governor is battling environmentalist activists in his push for more transportation infrastructure in a state exploding with commerce and population. And using state resources, Gov. Rick Perry (denied the necessary and requested federal help needed by a border state to deal with the consequences of current federal inaction, in addition to shouldering the continued fallout from past federal actions) works to hold the line on the 1250 mile section of the U.S. border between Texas and Mexico, our neighbor to the south.
Texas: Mandatory meningitis shots for all newly enrolling college students
There is two thoughts on this One held by Perry’s backers which is that he is sincerely sorry about his decision and then there are others like me who just a firmly believe he’s really sorry he got caught making the decision.
Just the fact that Perry thought he could force this on a free people is enough to show me his thought process. NO TRUE CONSERVATIVE would have ever considered trying to forces such a heinous policy. What if will President he makes another just as heinous decision and this time he doesn’t back down?
Would you coerce a parent to have a child vaccinated for any communicable disease? Measles? Chicken Pox? Diphtheria? Polio?
Well we've been seeing evidence of so called 'herd immunity' breaking down because misguided parents bought the vaccine causes autism bunkum. Among the many advances made in public health over the last 150 years or so is near universal vaccination for common infectious disease.
If you don't want your kid vaccinated then go the 'opt out' route.
Or home school. Or move.
Yes, because the vaccines are proven to not be life threatening - and anyone can get the above mentioned diseases by casual contact, such as sitting in a desk next to an infected child. The emphasis here is, this is not a lifestyle choice, but by mere proximity to an infected child, others will be endangered.
HPV requires sexual activity. I cannot infect your daughters (if I were infected myself) by casual contact. It's physically impossible - that's the difference.
Now, would I suggest my daughters get the injection? Absolutely. But, do I want Big Goverment/Big Brother dictating that they WILL by default be injected, unless I sign an afadavit? Absolutely not. Let's go one step further. I have now signed an afadavit that opts my daughters from getting the HPV virus; will I now be charged with reckless child endangerment?
No.
AUSTIN (AP) -- Gov. Rick Perry ordered Friday that schoolgirls in Texas must be vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer, making Texas the first state to require the shots.
The girls will have to get Merck & Co.'s new vaccine against strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV, that are responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.
Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass laws in state legislatures across the country mandating it Gardasil vaccine for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.
Details of the order were not immediately available, but the governor's office confirmed to The Associated Press that he was signing the order and he would comment Friday afternoon.
Perry has several ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug company's three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, his former chief of staff. His current chief of staff's mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.
Toomey was expected to be able to woo conservative legislators concerned about the requirement stepping on parent's rights and about signaling tacit approval of sexual activity to young girls. Delisi, as head of the House public health committee, which likely would have considered legislation filed by a Democratic member, also would have helped ease conservative opposition.
Perry also received $6,000 from Merck's political action committee during his re-election campaign.

The simple fact is that Perry was bought off by Merck. In addition, if he wanted to mandate it, there should not have been a reason for an "Opt Out" clause. It should have been an "Opt In". THAT is what got people's goat. _______________________________________________________
GARDASIL is the only human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of HPV.
Only 4 types? Out of the 40 different types of HPV? Color me unimpressed.
I read this my Michelle Malkin. She has more detail and I agree with her assessments.

Ok, but the entire budget(including bailouts) for the last three years has been, roughly, 11-12 trillion or so hasn’t it?
You can catch meningitis minding your own business. Not the case with HPV. Besides, Perry admitted he screwed up. Who hasn’t?
Does anyone know the long term ramifications of this vaccine?
If Palin did the same thing, would she get a free pass??? Could Palin get away with, “I’d made a mistake, can we please move on???”
C’mon, tell the truth.
HELL NO!!!!! She would get flak from ALL sides and people would declare her career DOA. You know what a drum beat that would of caused...dogging her infinitum....and she would of deserved it.
The executive order Perry signed (and the the crap that was going on in the background) gives us an insight of his leadership style and his thought process. Something voters need to know.
No one should get a free pass no matter how much we like him/her or believe that they’re “the one”. NO ONE should be coronated because of “it’s my turn” or “I’m loved by the establishment”. I’m gettting tired of that.
It’s called VETTING...vetting someone’s record as opposed to one’s personality, family or intelligence (like what they did to Palin).
Could Perry withstand a thorough vetting of his record? Could Perry withstand the “Palin treatment”??? If the MSM or party regulars won’t vett, then the alternative media and conservative groups will. You just gotta be able to play off script and get off the talking points. If this controversty gets Perry supporters in a tizzy then I can only imagine what his immigration record will do.
