If you support the big bang theory then its logical that star formation will slowly keep being reduced over time. An expanding universe from a singular event will obviously reduce density as it expands, dissipating the hydrogen gas further and further over time.
We obviously need to drill for more gas.
Maybe we could frack the space-time continuum.............
