For a small-government conservative on the presidential campaign stump like Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a new federal regulation forcing farmers to get commercial drivers licenses would make a perfect example of Barack Obamas Washington run amok.
But there is no such regulation.
...
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration stepped in to clarify whether the states had the right to do what Illinois had done, and on May 31, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a public notice asking for comment on the commercial licensing of farm equipment.
Many in the farm community saw that notice as evidence that federal regulations were brewing, and the rumor went viral. That speeded up the process in Washington. Last Wednesday, the agency moved to put the issue to rest.

Oh, come on ... it was under consideration and if not for the outcry you betcha it would have been promulgated.
A big thanks to Rick Perry. You are all ready more effective than Obama.
Thanks again.
Bumping your comment.
I’m not in the Perry column yet. Still reading. I have deep concerns, but I sure like what he is saying. Saw this on Yahoo news this morning about Perry’s proposed changes to the Constitution, and agree with all of it. If he could win and actually make good on this platform, it would do a great deal to protect America as America.

Perry has to stay above these “Gotcha” moments from the MSM. That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t answer, just make a point that this is all part of a larger plan to chip away at his candidacy and he’s going to focus on the big stuff like saving this country.
This is how they went at Sarah.
This author is a moron. If there was no intention of issuing such a regulation why is the DOT spending time and money asking for comment on such a regulation?
Seven Amendments to the Constitution? Holy cow! Looked through and I’m really not for that. The problem with legislation from the bench has to do with who has been elected to name whom as judges. I really don’t see the lifetime tenure as the primary issue.
Likewise, I don’t for a minute want to see Congress able to roll over the judiciary’s protection of individual rights via mob rule (a 2/3rds majority in Congress). That would put us only closer to being a pure democracy rather than a constitutional republic. Very dangerous indeed.
Senators back to being named by the state legislatures again? Eh, I can see some good in that, also some good in the direct election. Moves more cronyism back to the states when cronyism in state legislatures is already pretty thick and ugly.
Abortion? Traditional definition of marriage? There’s nowhere near the popular support for such amendments to get through today. At any time that they could be passed, there’d be sufficient support for them to be protected legislatively, IMO.
Yeah, I’d like to get rid of the federal income tax, but that likewise ain’t happenin’. It’s good rhetoric, but it’s not grounded in political reality.
Let's please EVERYBODY and win in a landslide!
Let's run all three of the above as the new PC party ticket. The Progressively Conservative party.
This new PC platform is based on two fundamental and complimentary truths:
1) The Right is very concerned and serious about protecting Freedom FROM Democracy. We see through titles and look for results. And... we suck at marketing.
2) The Left is superficial and uninterested in long-term affects when immediate thrills and meaningless statements are at stake.
Soooooooo.....
Let's start the PC party and run the Three's Company ticket starring Rick Perry as Jack Tripper. Libs will really grow for the threesome aspect, if you know what I mean. More than the Ball will be Hard when Matthews gets a thrill up one leg and down another reminding every guest that he's named after 'Chrissie'. The news folk will love all the angles and triangles to write about. And it would attract many crossovers - I hear Bill Clinton's already on the bus.
Make the campaign site so that it feels like a porn site. Of course, I personally have NO idea what that would entail... but I hear things. Like foreign policy sound bytes referencing the 'Cowboy positions of Dick Perry', ToddP's take on transportion: 'I like it doggie style' and of course photos of Bachmann's hubby to attract the silk shirts. The donations button will be labeled Moms I'd Like to Finance. Expect an orgasm of cash.
The wandering eye of the lecherous left has had Obama, so to speak. Time for something new, someone borrowed and a prez plus two. (Sorry, the rhyming aspect is bait for the Jesse Jackson types.)
So I believe the Left would be accepting - and probably presenting.
And the Right should have no problem supporting three conservatives instead of one or possibly two. As a package deal. We can go pretty dang rogue without being unconstitutional or otherwise scary. Of course only two can appear on the ballot and none of the three egos can be expected to ride in the back today.
However, come October, one quite possible scenario is that my fave, Bachmann, will be trailing Perry and Palin. So she might be receptive to game-changing ideas that keep her relevant. So they draft the "Contract To Save America" or something. Which says Bachmann agrees to drop out and Palin/Perry agree to go Pres/VP based on polls one month later. At which point the VP designee drops out. All three campaign for the one left. Against Romney.
Big primary win for the Right. Slaughter for the establishment - even if they team up too.
Come the general, all three every day hammering Obama. The contract has a P/P ticket with Bachmann promised the role of full-time Congressional liaison. I know, nothing new in theory. But in practice she could be MUCH more visible and her stellar voting record on the pressing issues of today and her federal experience would fill a gaping hole to two state execs leave on the ticket. And when we have summits/pow-wow and such between the White House and Congress, she can bring the Do-As-I-Did gravitas to the arm-twisting table.
It could be a great story of personal sacrifice for the sake of country, an example of team work and an awesome combination of executive experience from our three biggest states -Alaska and Texas- plus the new conservatism of the heartland.
Hey, maybe it will be the start of the Super Committee for Freedom. These three could name names. Fill future jobs. During the campaign instead of after. And highlight the Obama dregs that would be replaced by our much more respectable crew. Lots of material there. With people like Sec. Timmy, AG withHolder, Big Sis, etc. it will NOT be difficult to find starkly and favorably contrasting faces. And policies.
I'm only half joking.
We do need to finds ways to make the glut of better-than-Romney and infinitely-better-than-Obama choices an advantage to their defeat rather than simply another occasion for infighting.
Tyranny never sleeps. But he takes a Shiite load of vacations.
(Note to Mormon candidates: don't try to steal this Three's Company idea. Something reveals to me that it probably will not work for you - even if you were conservative.)
Correct but this wasn’t a gaffe/mistake.
“Awesome”
Great, the Super Committee for Freedom’s first volunteer!
Ever been a secretary?
Can you click the ‘Calculate’ button in Turbo Tax?
Think you can beat up Tiny Tim?
Excellent.
Treasury... check.
Now...
The SCF has another opening. You get to call yourself a ‘general’. Being an attorney is helpful. But, in reality, anybody with a Heritage Foundation pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution and the minimum smarts to NOT give automatic weapons by the truck load to blood thirsty savages on our own border would be a VAST improvement. Being racist is apparently not a barrier to Holdering this position.
Treasury! Perfect. 1str thing. TURN OFF THE PRINTING PRESSES, NOW!
You make some interesting points. Thanks!
Correct.
The Colorado Farm Bureau has been telling its members to submit their concerns to the Department of Transportation about changes and commercial driving license provisions.

The American Farm Bureau Federation is pleased the U.S. Department of Transportations Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration listened to farmer and rancher concerns regarding changes to agricultural transportation regulations and commercial drivers license provisions.
As a result of comments received from AFBF and others, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said today that the FMCSA has no intention to propose new regulations governing the transport of agricultural products, and that the agency has released guidance to states so they clearly understand common-sense exemptions to allow farmers, their employees, and their families to accomplish their day-to-day work and transport their products to market.
Colorado Farm Bureau submitted official comments to DOT opposing the new regulations.

Rick Perry was right-on with what was going on in the Department of Transportation.
Additionally, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau had the understanding the change of policy to require commercial drivers license for farm work was slated to happen, calling their members to express their concerns as well.
From: http://wfbf.com/farm-bureau-news/farm-bureau-opposes-federal-transportation-changes/
WFBF opposes any change in statue or regulatory authority that would reclassify implements of husbandry or other farm equipment as Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs), reads the letter Farm Bureau submitted to the DOT on June 28.

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau then followed up with this news update:
MADISON Karen Gefvert, Director of Governmental Relations for the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation made the following statement today regarding the decision from U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will not issue new regulations on the transportation of agricultural products:
This is good news for Wisconsins farmers.

You might also want to take a quick look at this youtube video from a local ABC Channel 25 station in central Texas about the federal government’s push to require CDLs at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiFnnR_gpvg
Again Rick Perry was correct in his view of the changes that were set to start and correctly bought attention to it.
If anyone is so inclined to do some research on the United Nations Agenda 21 and Sustainable Cities or Sustainable Development and the UN Agenda 21 connection to farm destabilization, here’s a good article to read that could help you get started. It has the commercial driver’s license issue specifically mentioned:
Title: Agenda 21 and DOT Encroach on Family Farms, Want to Require CDL to Operate Family Farm Equipment
There is good reason Rick Perry has come out blasting this DOT proposed policy implementation!
Last I checked, people have the right to make comments on pending regulations. The author doesn't like that right very much, does he?
