"That was a silly mistake, and any good editor would have caught it."

According to merriam-webster, "eminently," is defined as, "to a high degree: very":

Sample usages provided include "eminently worthy," "eminently sensible," and "eminently qualified."

In this light, "eminently practical," is not in the least, an inappropriate usage.

I have been told by editors to use these two words the way I described. Maybe the editors were wrong. I can’t argue about it all day. Thanks for your input, etc.
