Some folks on another thread were commenting on, and wondering about the truthfulness of, my piece at "Gates of Vienna" on Islamic, Mahdist proselytizing at Lackland Air Force Base. I’ve personally encountered a lot of these folks here in Berlin (Harun Yahya’s followers). They’re actually pacifist, mellow, not TOO pushy, and as the author pointed out sincere enough.
Personally, I don’t think ANY religious should be allowed to engage in prosyletizing on a military base. That’s not really the point of the military, to be honest.
If there is a bright side, at least thank heavens it was Harun Yahya’s people......they’re quirky, but non-violent. Strangely, they’re trying to finance rebuilding the Temple of Solomon. No joke! They’re serious about it.....they really want to rebuild the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. When they told me that, ya could’ve knocked me over with a feather.
I was left with the impression the financing of their outfit comes from the UAE, from the same foundation that owns shares in NewsCorp.
I could ask them......one of them, she’s my neighbor.

So, I went and asked.
It’s the Prince Al-Waleed Foundation that bankrolls them; same guy that owns part of NewsCorp. Interesting, to say the least.
As to rebuilding Solomon’s Temple, that’s something they really want to do; they’re fundraising in the UAE and Israel to accomplish it. Here’s what she (Ebru) told me: the Temple will be located between the current Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the site of the Church of Our Lady (which will also be rebuilt, as it’s currently a ruin), and will be altogether an all-inclusive area, open to all (well, not ALL. Only Christians, Jews, and Muslims). Ebru seems quite stoked about the idea.
It’s nice to plan, and if they’re truly sincere about it, personally I have no objections. Nice of them to rebuild the Church (and the temple, too).
Time will tell.
