U.S. farmers oppose EPA's proposed dust regulation

The Environmental Protection Agency is looking to tighten standards for the amount of harmful particles in the air, facing opposition from U.S. farming groups who call it an unrealistic attempt to regulate dust.

(snip)

In scientific terms, the EPA is looking to either keep the standards at 150 micrograms per cubic meter or revise it down to 65 to 85 micrograms per cubic meter.

Environmental groups say these tiny elements could be harmful if not deadly for people, causing cardiovascular or respiratory problems.

(snip)

But for Kluthe, who lives a quarter of a mile away from any community, the health aspects mean little weighed against the possibility of costly dust control measures he may have to take, such as watering gravel roads or tilled soil.

"They need to get real," he said, echoing the messages the National Pork Producers and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association have been sending to the EPA.

Lawmakers from both parties also have been complaining about the reach of EPA farming regulations. In a recent manifestation, Richard Lugar, a senior Republican Senator from Indiana, sent EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson a letter pleading for "common-sense" on dust regulations.

But technically, EPA can't use common sense if it clashes with science, as their assessments are required to be purely scientific and mindless of ramifications, said John Walke, clean air director at the National Resources Defense Council.

"The EPA doesn't care where the pollution is coming from, and our lungs don't care," he said.

“Feds Back off Commercial Licenses for Farmers Idea
Federal highway officials have decided that farmers who operate tractors, combines and
semitrailers can keep driving on rural roads without the same kind of regulations that
apply to long-haul truckers.”

If these guys were following science, they would realize that even if you exceeded the federal standard by 1000x, that if the particles aren’t small enough, they can’t make it into the lungs. It is scientifically impossible.

Plus, the assumptions of people getting killed from this dust is based on people that have these health conditions venturing out in these fields....which they never would do.

Another thing on particle size, the heavier the particle the more likely it is to fall out of the air more quickly. It is the heavy small particles that carry the highest health risks.

And don’t get me started on air moisture, the more moist the air the more the particles stick to each other, causing them to big to get in your lungs and causing them to fall out of the air quickly.

Oh, lets not forget rain, rain will completely knock all of this out.

Folks, this is insanity..

Sorry, there are no peas. Nor corn. Nor wheat, barley, oats or other field crops. Due to dust control, peas cannot be combined; consequently they are in short supply as the field labor cannot keep up with demand.

Think of the jobs and industry in America if the bleeping EPA was just the bleep shut down! Think of the energy sources available to us, the cheap electricity, the plentiful natural gas and oil! Think of the people who would be working, who are now on the dole and hate it! Think of the freaking FREEDOM we would have!

Somebody better do something about reining in the EPA, before honest Americans do something about the EPA. I swear, any candidate could win in a heartbeat if s/he would just vow to destroy the bleeping EPA!

If common sense clashes with science, the science is probably the one in error, especially given what the agenda-governed call "science" these days. Common sense is distilled intuitive knowledge derived from empirically obtained knowledge, with which no correct science will by definition disagree.

These bureau-rats, who have never been on a farm and who make much more than farmers and ranchers do who grow our food, have never seen a West Texas sand storm. I’d love to see them standing in Plainview or Lubbock with their little particulate meters when a blue norther bears down on them with 70 mph winds and a wall of sand from Oklahoma. Who are they going to fine...God?

Obama and his EPA idiots should be the laughing stock of the nation.

YEAH shut down all those farms, who needs ‘em! The cow farts are warming the globe, all the farmers are bitter clingers to God and guns anyway...people should quit eating food, just get on all fours in a grassy field and graze.

PLUS...all the farmers can go on welfare and food stamps, which all the genius liberal professors say is the ONLY way to get our economy on track!

If you think of it, well armed bitter people who are even more bitter than before because the regime stole their livelihood, are the last people that regime needs on the streets with nothing to do. Bad strategery.
