Law enforcement alert warns of lone wolf threats
CNN ^ | 8-17-11 | Carol Cratty

U.S. officials warn the threat posed by a lone gunman or a group with small arms is a serious concern to law enforcement.

A joint intelligence bulletin issued by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI cites the July attack in Norway as one very deadly example. Anders Behring Breivik allegedly shot and killed 69 people on the Norwegian island of Utoya. Authorities say earlier that day a vehicle bomb made by Breivik exploded in Oslo and killed eight people.

The U.S. law enforcement bulletin issued Tuesday warns Breivik's preparations went undetected. The memo, which was obtained by CNN, says Breivik "is believed to have acted alone and used legal methods to procure the vast majority of materials and weapons needed for his operation, successfully avoiding law enforcement suspicion."

In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday, President Barack Obama expressed concerned about lone wolf actors "being able to carry out wide scale massacres of the sort that we saw in Norway." He called the lone wolf worry "the most likely scenario that we have to guard against right now."

Janet Gestapilano of the DHS doesn't worry about jihadists, but does worry about teapartiers.

Chuck Norris should sue the DHS for defamation of character.

I am going to sound like I should be put into an institution with a rubber room but there is so much news about the Tea Party. They are disliked, feared, hate mongers etc... Sometimes I wonder if the O administration doesn’t set something up... something bad and puts the official blame on a “Tea Party” member. I wonder, “How else can they discredit the Tea Party movement?” If innocent blood is shed and the blame is put on them... perhaps they will weaken? Someone please tell me that I am wrong and this would be impossible to do!

Lone wolf terrorists. Should be easy for her to find. Just cruise the firearms counter at sporting goods stores and put surveilance on the gun ranges. /s/

A real threat and warning, or just more busywork invented by a bureaucracy specializing in hysteria?

I guess someof the things the feds have been told to look for are “bulk ammo sales, food stockpiling, etc”

I saw a clean cut White guy walking alone at the mall the other day.

Scared the ever-lovin’ SH*T out of me!

I was on the phone to Big Sis in a heartbeat. I knew she’d know what to do.

The Lone Wolf in the Oval office is doing more damage to the USA than Osama Bin Laden could have ever dreamed of doing.

Of the 126 people indicted for being terrorists in the last two years every one of them was Muslim.

Janet, Obama and the thuggy members of the dem party - including Blabbermouth Biden are doing the Nixon paranoid dance.

Hey Biden, are they 'after' you? Have you looked behind the curtain in the last few minutes?

Sorry... You’re not wrong... It could happen, and situations have been manipulated in similar fashion in the past.

You're not wrong in the least.

It's not only possible, but highly likely.

A basic tactic from the communist & nazi playbooks .. always has been.

...the threat posed by a lone gunman...

Is quite easily countered by just one other lone gunman - the armed and trained citizen, defending himself/herself, family, friends, and fellow citizens. Disarm us, and yes, lone gunman are a threat. On the other hand, widespread concealed carry reduces them to a footnote on the Darwin list.

I saw a white boy with Red hair and freckles chewing gum at a mall.

It freaked me out. So I started looking for the Ryder Rental Truck. Sure enough, I saw a U-Hall truck in the parking lot. It had “Bush Cheney” bumper sticker. So I investigated. The man driving it said he was laid off, so he had to move.

Likely story. A white guy getting laid off in this humming economy? Give me a break. I think I scared him off when I asked what's in the truck.

Keep vigilant folks, there out there, and they have red hair.

"Flash mobs? What's a flash mob? Oh.. you mean what the Irish teens did back years ago." said one Obama/Holder Dept. of Just Us spokesman.

P.S. I heard George Noory and a regular guest on CoastToCoastAM discuss these "flash mob" incidents .. mainly they were discussing the sacking of retail stores. "The teens are polite but it's still stealing. . . ." (paraphrasing)

Noory and guest claimed the precedent was set years ago by the Irish!

There was no other mention of ethnicity.

I hadn’t given the red hair apsect much thought, but it makes perfect sense. It’s probably even more Celtic, more Anglo and Saxon even than blond hair, and found on even whiter skin. They don’t even tan if they try!

Same with the freckles - my gosh, the freckles! They’re everywhere, now that you point it out. I’m getting freaked out.

I’m just glad to be able to come to Free Republic, where these kinds of insightful safety tips are being discussed. Too many are just oblivious, watching darker-skinned citizens on American Idol, and feeling all safe about things. They just don’t know. God help ‘em.

If you aren’t concerned about this ask yourself, if someone, an ex-wife/husband, disgruntled employee, or cranky neighbor, were to denounce you to Homeland Security for making disparaging comments about Obama would they find the makings of a bomb in your home?

The answer is probably yes. An acid bomb (the headlines in the paper would really sound bad) can be made from a 2 liter soft drink bottle, baking soda and vinegar. Of course you are saying that would never stand up in court. Your probably right, but before you get your day in court, you get to spend a night or two in jail being interrogated, miss some work and have to explain to your employer why, get your name in the paper as a terrorist, and spend your hard earned money on a lawyer.

I was wishing/hoping that I was wrong. I’ve seen the left ignore the Tea Party and then attempt to diminish their size/intensity. That obviously didn’t work. If desperate... blaming the Tea Party for an incident and/or creating an incident to blame on them is the next “logical” step. IMHO. To be completely honest, I was actually hoping for a “no, you are nuts/wrong” label.. in a way it would have made me feel better.
